View Full Version : 90's Nova ?

vaughanmc

Does the 90's Nova still work today ?

I know H1 GTE pulls it off with the spot-lights and the bright red interior, roll cage and most importantly the TSW alloy wheels

Does anyone think it can still be done today and made look good ?

I quite fancy some TSW alloys if I can get a hold of the right set to make my Nova look like it's just came from the 90's modifying scene

Quite low, a nice subtle sound system, TSW wheels etc

Found a set on eBay that I quite like but just wanted to see some ideas

I know folk might say 'It's your car, do what you want' but I'd like some opinions etc

Cheers, Vaughan :thumb:

Stealth's, Alpines, Venom's

Wolfrace Voodoo's

MIM Raffino's

These are old skool/90's wheels that you don't see any more but I was wondering if they'd be smart in times where most things are GSi'd with Speedlines...?

Aslong as the car is a clean example then any styling is acceptable imo.

I have always wanted to do a replica of certain '90s' cars. If i was ever going to make my nova a more comfy style (ie, not track styled), i would chuck my MIMs on it and make it look a bit more old skool.

Very OE but has some touches on it that you don't see any more, very 90's/Old Skool!

Some nice pics there mate

Im not actually sure, but through the years iv been looking at novas theres been quite a few that stand out and i want. H1GTE being one of them.

I think if i was going to do it i would get a mk1 gte in black. have the red pinstripe, maybe twin headlights, mims in silver, clear rear lights, maybe a small scooby vent on the bonnet. inside will be a standard interior with some 6x9s on the rear shelf lol and chose a headunit and steering wheel which came from the 90s.

Nice to see theres people thinking similar to me - I know Nova's aren't modern by any means but they all seem to follow each other

GSi kit, Speedlines, LET/XE or a pure standard original Nova

Rarely see anything that's different to those - Joff's Nova is a nice example with his Old Skool ICE and Wolfrace Voodoo's :thumb:

If it's 90's nova then you'd want an 13 sr, snowplough front end, k+n filter, Ashley exhaust, mk2 golf GTI bbs 14" xspokes, Koni suspension 16v GTE font brakes, drums on the rear, an alpine tape deck head unit and a pair of alpine 6x9's on the shelf, oh and it has to be red with brown and yellow inside. That's what my first car was in 95, cos there was nae chance I could afford a GTE nevermind a GSI.

11-12-09, 10:37 AM
I must be the only one that thinks the TSW Blades on that ruined H1GTE look t0ss? lol Same goes for the spots, cheesy fonts/stickers... Blah.

Stealths, Evo's etc etc have all had their day IMO. Running them now makes it looks like you're too tight to put your hand in your pocket. (IMO)

Edit - There's another GTE I'm thinking of RE the fonts etc, blue with yellow details?

90's isn't old skool man! That was last week. lol

This thread needs more of my pics in it! lol

I think the 90's vibe is cool as. Avoid M3 mirrors & you can't go far wrong.
My car was going that way until I pulled it apart. I wanted to colour code the alloys Flame Red, same as the body & put in some subwoofers in a boot install.
I'm not sure I would fit TSW wheels, they are too wide & the offset's suck on all but a few models. Jason Hudson's silver GSi had TSW Stealths though & was a big inspiration to me.

11-12-09, 11:22 AM
I used to have Raffinos on my H reg 1.2 Diamond - it had a 1.4 sr engine bored to 1480 and was painted in that Rover pearl purple colour, before that it was Nautilis blue. I Also had a white F sr with MK2 panels with TSW stealths - I'll try to find pics and scan.

Oh Jon Walsh nova ftw

Well I'm building a G reg Nova in Flame Red which has a 1300 8v Sport engine (40's etc) and it's also got the early SR/Sport interior the brown/yellow checked stuff

TSW Hock's are nice as well

Someone above said about the GSi and Speedlines - If it had the standard 1.6 8v engine it would be old skool but everyone does the same now and puts an XE or LET in there

I clearly had taste. I dint like any of the nasty trends that swept through the modified car scene. Cutting holes & adding mesh. YUK.
Most popular new wheel trends. YUK
DTM & M3 Mirrors. YUK
Multiple exhausts, splitters, single wipers, neon washer jets, bonnet vents, tinted windows, cheap cone filters, splitfire spark plugs........ the list is endless & it was all disgusting.

I find it utterly comical how many cars have had endless amounts of money chucked at them by retarded little teenagers, inspired by Top shelf car magazines, only to tansform the cars into worthless s4itboxes no one in their right mind would want to own. You only need to look on ebay or just wait near your nearest drive-thru.

The only car they ever looked good on IMO, but any money says replace them with something tasteful and it will lift the whole car.

Big deeps were gash! Always have been. A mate had them on his Illusion kitted mk3 ERST cabby. lol

CG FTW. I'm the same mate. i have always had a hatred for mesh. especially 'w@nker mesh' the w@nker LED bonnet lights etc, that goes without saying. I've always preferred to modify stadard bumpers/panels etc. I must have been onto something as the bumpers/boot I modified for my Primera were 'euro' before it was done to jap cars. I hate them now, but sold them last year to my mate and he won an award at JAE with basically a red version of my car 5/6 years ago. Setting trends FTW.

Like I keep saying, all of this standard, OEM styling is a bit boring. It's very rare I can laugh at a barrie dup motor now. :( lol

It has to be done. The youth of today cannot live their lives thinking that TSW has always stood for totally sh!t wheels. lol
Ok, they had a major off day with the Phoenix. Everything still rocked them though. It was then that I said I will never ever like any 3 spokes. Yet the Nova ones now look awesome as do JDM Advan's and FRST rims. Ah well.

I KNOW the Phoenix will always suck ass though. lol

lol thats it. I'm off to mothers tomorrow to sort through my years and years of mags. Max Pooer, Fart Car, Shedline etc. Oh and loads of Total Vauxhall, obviously!!

Standard 3 spokes FTW. Aftermarket 3 spokes FTL? With the exception of Advans?

I think I'd agree with you on the 3 spoke rule lol. Unless you're including Fatboy Vitara's lol

I did actually think along similar lines, though I would have little to add. I ignored any Novas that didnt tick my boxes. If it was kitted or had nasty wheels, I either didnt buy the mag or tore it out. Too many Novas were sacriledge around the turn of 99/2000 when the MAX Powewr & Fast Car influence was at full pelt.

Anyone got the pic of the black GTE that was posted in the mk1 thread?

Black, smoothed boot, number plate on bottom of rear bumper, skirts modded so that the they were straight along the whole sill, 17" Mim Raffinos, nice and low, tinted windows?

I've fell in love with it but lost the pic. True 90's style that still looks great today.

Pictures, fitting/modifying info...?

I nearly bought some, the offset is a killer and you need spigot rings as the centre bore is 57.1 i think an nova is 60, something like that

21-12-09, 11:44 PM
Ahh right - Seen a cheap set on eBay there and it got me thinking

craig green
22-12-09, 12:04 PM
Renault wheels can be done. But as said, the offset sucks & the centre bore is larger iirc, so the wheels need something to help them locate on the hub, other than the 4 wheel bolts.

vaughanmc
22-12-09, 12:07 PM
I just want something quite old skool and different - What about these Renault wheels ? Are these as much of a pain as the 16v Clio ones ?

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/Nova335.jpg lol They ARE Clio 16v. Phase 2's. The Phase 1 Clio's had the turbines you're probably thinking of. Yes, just as much as a PITA to fit, wrong ET and spigot rings needed probs.
[EDIT] I loved that Q plater back in the day. Phase 2 Valva wheels and Ford Citrine yellow paint. 90's as. lol

craig green
22-12-09, 01:50 PM
Renault wheels are Renault wheels.

Maybe find a rim & see if some material can be skimmed off the rear mounting face to increase the offset figure (tuck them in) though you need to consider how deep the wheel nuts sit & what thickness is left.

vaughanmc
22-12-09, 01:51 PM
I thought they were Renault 19 16v wheels - Not clued up with Renaults lol

L14MNP
22-12-09, 01:57 PM
19 and Clio. Some Meganes run a similar style, slightly different centre cap and in 16" too.

There's a smart 5 GTT a few houses from mine with ph.2 turbines on. FTW
I'm not clued up on Renaults either, they're just one of many hot hatches that were popular when I was growing up lol.

Novasport
22-12-09, 02:37 PM
Not really, bet you could pick up a set cheap off Ebay, they even come in white!
TBH they look lost in a Mini wheel arch and most people want 17" rims so should make them cheap and 15" is the best size for a Nova

L14MNP
22-12-09, 02:37 PM

The earlier centre caps used to look like a single large centre nut
