xe i pressume find a twin v and have the egde machined off or i think theres some on ebay

if it's for an xe, do it properly, don't just hack it in two.

I bought my undersized single v pulley off someone on here. As said, they pop up on ebay now and then.

the concept is that using a smaller pulley runs the alternator slower, thus burning less hp

No,

Just take a normal twin V pulley from an early XE to a machine shop and ask them to turn (on a lathe) the outer/smaller pully off. should be about a tenner (cash)

Will look like this

and be nice and balanced (which it wont if you just grind it off)
