there should be two wires taht go to the soloniod, one wire that is from the ignition key that operates the soloniod and the other wire comes almost direct from the battery and then extends to the altenator. make sure you have the correct earth cable for the 1.0 engine as this also connects to the top fixing stud for thge starter, many cars with varied engines have this wire missing and bad earthing is always an issue with older cars

It's lazy winding over though lol

Your have one on the gearbox then, My 1.2 used to have the earth straight off the batt but the baby xe dont have a hole big enough.

the earth to the starter seems to only be for the 1.0, the ohcs dont need it, a 1.0 will work without but obviously the stronger the earth under the heavy loading of starting a points car the better

this earth is not the main one for the car though, you always need the one from the gearbox,

Errr, no, my 1.2 had the earth there, and no gearbox earth. Its not needed if you have the earth on the starter.

i second AW06, aslong as the starter has a decent earth, the gearbox earth strap isnt really essential

its not needed at all if theres the starter one off the batt.
