Get a new car?

Buy a cav saloon or one of the chevettes on ebay atm.

120+miles isn't that far, I'd sooner travel that then buy a ford.

How can we suggest what car to buy next when we don't know what your budget is and what you want from a car.

R5s are still a 'tin' car so that'l be out the question. Not sure what you mean by 120+ miles, but it isnt far at all to buy a car.

PS. It's grammar :wtf:

£350 will not buy you a decent turbo car. A R5 for that price will be an absolute ****ter.

Give him a break lads.
He is only asking for some advice on weather to buy a r5 or not.
The r5 will just eat money and then kill itself to be fare mate i would stay away from them.

09-12-09, 07:56 AM
What he said ^^^^

the head gaskets a prone to dying due to the boost the little engine does, straight after that is the turbo failing, it doesn't matter how fine the lump is, no R5 turbo lump has ever managed to take any abuse

You have £350 for a car ,

I'd look for

Tax
MOT
4 good tyres all round

Thats about it if I'm honest.

LMFAO lol Brililant +rep mate

On a more serious note, hard luck about the write off mate. Any pics of the damage? Its just luck really some people have a blow out and luck keeps them out of harms way and sometimes not. It's not a write off coz the Nova is a tin can, it's a write off coz it's not worth jack in the insurance price bible.

Jon_nova1
09-12-09, 01:03 PM
sorry l14dfdf, i can't rep you lol

yep, its because novas are worth nothing! they get written off for damage to door locks!

Nova_Tek
09-12-09, 01:39 PM
Exactly, If someone bumps into you and bent the bumper iron and took some paint off, the cost needed to buy a new bumper iron and a couple hours labour to paint it would cost much more then a Nova's worth in the insurances' eyes, hence a write off.

Any cheap R5 GTT will be an absolute banger, you need to pay good money for a good one and even then you need to be sensible with it and it won't be cheap to run it & maintain either.

i aslways remember my dad telling me that when he worked in the body shop(a good 20 or so years back) he had alot of R5 turbo's in as they were the same brakes as thr 1.1s or something. they could go very well but couldnt stop he said he had alot of them in with front end smashes. to be honest in my opinion you will struggle to find a good one thats not been taken to the limits all the time same as subaru imprezas i was looking at getting one but they have all been raced all the time and not looked after most the time...
