Adjusting Points

I have a 1L engine, and i had to take it to the garage the other day to have the points reset. Even though this required no specialist equipment and only took about 10mins (involved pushing the car backwards and forwards, and fiddling with a screwdriver) they charged me ?30. Does anyone know how to do this process yourself? What exactly does it adjust? Thanks, Joe

once they have been done they will be fine for ages.......

i didn't do mine or adjust the tappits for over 8 months..... then the engine blew up so i fitted a 1.4 :lol:
