Right its that time of the year where i fancy a new car.

I have my Vectra to sell and a Ford Puma to sell and a load of E30, Nova, Astra bits to sell so im looking about £1500.

I want relitively reliable, quick, comfortable and stand out!

So far ive considered the following:

BMW E30 (possibly E36)
Vauxhall Astra GSi
Nova Saloon

just wondering what people would suggest and whether anyone knows of any other good cars that would do me...i like the mk1 Supra, Celica, etc but dont know too much about them

Honesty is welcomed no matter how harsh!

Cheers guys!

E30 = drug dealer car lol
Astra = common
Nova = not comfortable.

You could pick up a Volvo V70 with the T5 lump, or a Ford ST200 within budget, according to ebay.

ah you see i have owned an e30 and i loved it...until it met its end down a ditch in to a tree.

The astra Gsi i had was rotten and now the engine lives in my nova.

Volvo i dunno......not very stand outish or sporty but would be comfy!

Mondeo aint far off what my vectra is either.

i guess i may be being picky!

mmm now i looked at them but i would want the sports package for the spoiler and the nicer interior!

1999/2000 ish Focus 2.0 Ghia?

RickW
08-12-09, 03:17 PM
i would probably stick to my vectra rather than have a focus.

i think i need something sensible so i can concentrate on my nova as the toy...i end up collecting too many toys that all break and then i gotta walk to work anyway! haha

I nearly bought a range rover on LPG for £1500 but its expensive to keep on the road as it needed tires and few other bits.

Why not just stick with the vectra then?

RickW
08-12-09, 03:20 PM
because i dont love it!

I like to own a car i want to go out and clean...one i enjoy driving and the vectra just aint doing it for me. The E30 gave me that buzz but it cost a lot to get it right.

I like the alpha so will look in to them and may test drive a volvo see what i think

Just buy the best car for the money and mod it as you go along. there are so many parts for sale for these cars you will have no problem doing it all yourself in no time.

You can pick up a decent 325 coupe with low mileage easily in your budget.

RickW

yea ill keep an eye out for one. Would be a sensible choice because it fills all the criteria

Not just sticking up for them because I have one...

Depends what you mean by 'sporty'. I assume you want a body kit lol

Any T5 engined Volvo will wipe the floor with an Astra/Vectra GSi etc. Quite sporty in that regard.

S60's look too modern to be had from as little as £1500 too IMO. Awesome equipment levels as standard and safe as fcuk - considering you seem to like crashing. lol

RickW
08-12-09, 04:50 PM
haha thanks mate...1 crash in 7 years aint bad and it was in an e30 on oil on a roundabout! give me some credit haha

No body kits no! not up for anything other than OEM parts on my cars.

The volvo would be quick and comfy but im only 25! may test drive on....c70 is nice and cheap and the T5 engined ones can be had cheap

We have a '96 Audi A4.

Its built extremely well and puts many newer vauxhalls to shame. They have a very useful 4wd option and the 1.8T is a decent engine with potential but decent fuel economy.

You say "i'm only 25" as though family saloon cars can only be driven by old people, yet you have a vectra...

Thats Craigs S4.

Probably also worth taking a look at E46 BMW's, similar quality to the audi etc.

As for some of the other suggestions, Alfas and E30s? He did say he wanted a reliable car....

E30 :) then save for some Schnitzer rims :)

A3 1.8 T Sport? Good cars, cheap now, decent trim level too, dirt cheap to insure (perspective: My 02 1700 DT Corsa comes in at £402 F/C including Euro breakdown @ £80. The Audi, on the same policy with the same points & claims, 10k a year instead of 30k is £318)

Agreed on the age/Vectra lol

Your Audi is stunning!
Reminds me of this. Although I'm not sure why. I think it's the way it's sitting

The colours of your car are also very reminiscent of this 'old mans' Volvo lol

I think the only thing that will truly stand out (for the right reasons) for £1500 is some sort of classic (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1353291.htm) but it won't meet any of the other criteria lol

Rubber bumpers and wires. :( 100% early styling FTW.

It's true about the £1500 not gonna tick every box lol. Pick up a road legal xr2/3 that needs a bit of work?

How about an XE Nova? lol

RickW
08-12-09, 07:11 PM
got an xe nova!

the vectra i agree is a family car but i had no car and was offered it so took it. Volvo just seems to make me think of old people but i asgree some are nice.

may look in to the older A4 option as i always liked them and the 1.8T is a good engine and easily tuneable

The S4 isnt ours, its my brothers.

Ours its a bit more boring:

http://www.lr90.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=90&g2_serialNumber=2

£1500 will get you a half decent B5, either a V6 quattro or a 1.8T FWD. Might need to push the budget up a little more to get a 1.8T quattro though.

i'd go for audi a4. you should be able to get good one for £1500, if your not too bothered about quattro or leather seats. very nice cars and 1.8t is very good and easily tuned. my bro in law had x reg 1.8t quattro tuned up went really well and handled great. i would have bought it off him if i had the cash.

e36's are rotboxes too

True. I just always find it amazing how badly the C/E Class/Sprinters can go lol

No offence to any E36 owner but a lot of them in an H plate 316 seem to think they're in a current M3 for value/prestige etc. lol

Stupid thread anyway as the OP hasn't got a big enough budget to tick all of his boxes.

e36's are rotboxes too

both of my 36s are rust free and are spotless underneath. VERY solid cars  however, the J/K reg's do seem to be as bad as novas Lol.

im willing to negotiate on certain aspects. I just want a nice comfy car thats got a bit of poke...i agree the stand out bit will have to come from mods (and no not bodykits)
