to put meaningful cams in means aftermarket management at a minimum even retaining the std intake.

what would you suggest then

if you dont wanna spend ££££ just go for some kent ast1612s, fast road cams will give you 10-12bhp. As stuart says, if you want lairy cams, you need all the ancillaries to go with it, bodies (ftw), management, solid lifters, double valve springs, for every one mod you do, another one pops up to go along with it (£££££ trust me, ive done it). also the pistons wont really make a difference to power unless the compression ratio has been altered, ie 10:1 to 11:1, which you will need to know before you fit/run them

note I NEVER said you need bodies etc :p you can simply put on aftermarket management and use the std inlet (its not as bad as some folks make out).

the cams are mostly limited by the pistons though. deep cutouts and all that bollocks

for a grand id say twin 45s (second hand), fast road cams, decent exhaust

Stuart

even 2nd hand 45's arent cheap (and if you get cheap ones they should be rebuilt etc)

imho
for a grand I'd find a 2nd hand DTA EXP48 ecu to run the fuel/ign, cams, ashley manifold, bit o mapping. Win. Then when you've got some more cash the swap to TB's will be a piece of piss. Or sell up and not lose much money on the ECU (or move to another engine)

what powerband youre after?

i'm running schrick 280 degrees cams on stock pully's, and a remapped ecu.

If you want a cheap upgrade, stay with standard ECU and make the following mods :
- 2nd hand Lexmaul intake manifold
- 2nd hand 272° cams
- EDS chip (get a copy)
- ashley 4-2-1 manifold, very cheap about 165£ if I remember
- good exhaust

You will see at least 180hp at flywheel

Here is the dyno result of a friend with the following setup :
- lexmaul intake manifold
- 268° cams
- EDS stage 3 chip in standard ECU
- stock exhaust manifold
- 60mm bore exhaust

The corrected power result is 178hp at flywheel
and 150hp at the wheels

you can buy a half decent 'let' for a grand, instant 200bhp, and as you have a xe fitted its not much more work to fit a let, stock xe's about 150bhp with the mod's you have in mind i guess you wont see much more than 170 if that, makes sense to buy a 'let' imho ;)

i think 'let_nova' has a spare one forsale, the one below comes with a f28 box aswell, all depends what you want really

half decent LET for £1k? you'll get a LET for £1k, whther its good or bad depends on if the sellers a **** or not tbh.

auzzy - if want prices on bits for an XE, then drop me a pm. can also spec for your budget too, to get best out of it.
