Right, has any one fitted a smaller rad? I was thinking something along the lines of a civic rad as their quite small and I'm sure it will be up to the job. Will I have any problems other then reloating the water pipes etc?

Cheers for the help in advance :thumb:

i would check the diameter of the inlet and outlet of the rad, try to get the same as a vaux and also the temp sensor will it fit in? Or will the honda one work on a vaux system?

Nice one Jimbob, totally over looked the temp sensor. I'm not too fussed about inlet and outlet sizes as I'm sure I can bodge something together.

Why would you want a smaller rad?

surely thats going to mean higher running temp.

Stop being nosey edd, all will be revealed.

If it will cool a civic I'm sure it won't have a problem cooling a 1.6 8v

If your wanting a smaller one then put a 1.2 one on as there more shallower.

Temp sensor wont matter, your just prob have to change the wiring slighty.

Might mean making somway of holding it but i cant see it being a problem.

Basically I need another 3 - 4 inches of space at the front end (between the block and the rad). I did think of using a 1.2 but I still don't think it will give me the room required. The good thuing about the civic rad, is that its not very wide, so I could mount it to one side.

AW06 I was thinking something along the lines of plugging the temp sensor hole on the civic rad and running a nova one on the exit side of the radiator. Or using a civic temp sensor and making it fit the nova loom, either way I'm sure it won't require too much brain power. Perfect for me!

Civic temp sensor is easier, just get a plug for it or make one. I doubt its the same as a nova one?

Or a custom small 2 core radiator to you dimensions, get it the way you want. Being double core will help to increase its cooling performance.

but there not cheap lol

I know lol But he'll get what he wants.

The rad from a 1.5 civic is really slimline - and not far off square - and top fill too from memory so you might have to cut out for it in the nova slampanel.

the civic temp sensor might be the easiest option but it might have differant resistance than the vaux temp sensor, meaning that it would read correctly on the gauge

Wouldn't it be better for cooling to cut the cross member and drop the rad down/forward or such?

Might be bad for strength though?? If you cut too much away i mean.

Cut it open, weld in a brace.. Box it off.

/\ its alot of work thought just for a smaller rad Imo

That's the whole point, you wouldn't need to get it smaller. Just moving it.

He needs room for a turbo or something that's gonna make alot of heat, so you'll want that heat out quick and easliey.

I'll take off the front bumper tommorow benn and see how much room there is to play with, and see how much room I haven't got to hide the intercooler. Ideally I'd like to keep my rad to save hassles. Anyways heres a quick mock up of what I've got planned.
