Not forgetting CP's victory in the morning :) Knew i should have put a bet on him!

Hopefully next year we can get enough people to do the heats in the pro's in the morning instead of the singles!

My bro was snapping on the 1st track, (the final anyway) as he was racing for the rest and of course all of the 2nd track.

As said Donna was on hand with the camera, she has a lot of interesting photos and a few vids aswell but they had a four hour drive to get home so should be landing back about now id guess...

She had a good one of someone taking their left shoe off, being unable to brake and doing Lee up the back end lol

Only problem with those is, although it felt like you were getting it out further than a pro drifter, it was probably only out about an inch lol

Oh alright then, at least twice lol

We need some name stickers made up for the backs of the helmets next year so you can see exactly who just handed your ass to you, and who put mr hobbit into the tyre wall (baring in mind the tyre wall was behind the scrub barrier and he was wedged in the tyres) lol

Lee
06-12-09, 08:13 PM
lol, he was properly wedged in that barrier. Very impressive!!

CP

oooo me arthritis in me poor old bones - I was about buggered by the time the main race endedlol

Winning in the am was a bit embarassing really cos having fluked my way into 2nd in the semi's AND the finals behind Dar, he completely left me for dead in both before unluckily being embroiled in someone elses spin which gifted me the win of the last lap of the final.

I finished 4th in the main race and got first hand experience of Lee, Austins and Burgo's driving skills. Excellent skills lads - I just couldn't live with you:thumb:

I've driven Daytona quite a lot now with different groups and there's no doubt in my mind that the PNG drivers are the best group to go out with. Everyone drives impeccably and there's not a lot to choose between any of us which makes the racing so much more enjoyable

Agreed, Its so much nicer when theres no blatant back markers that are trying so hard that they dont notice the leading group. Fortunately there virtually no people off the pace (except my brother with his broken kart), and any who were, were very curtious.

I was a tad concerned to feel a bump and then turn around to be greeted with loggy's foot waving in the air lol

CP, totally agree, after seeing the state of the group before us who I dont think managed one lap without a massive pile up. Even on the slow out lap behind the pace kart, they managed to crash on the last circane at least twice! lol

Steve (the guy who was with me) commented last year how we were all great to race with and I think himself, Heath and Welf had a great time with us this year as well :)

That was a nightmare for me - every time for the 1st 10 laps or so, no matter how cautious i went in to the gentle left (before the tiny flick right in the to the left hairpin) i was just going straight on towards the marshal and tyres. Eventually I started locking the brakes at the 1st apex and drifting to towards the hairpin. It was only when it started to dry a little I could go in without the fear of flattening my face!

Pretty much the same as me, last lap i did my second engine wasnt revving at all so i was down to one and the ass end still slid on that corner, but it was infuriating me as i couldnt hold a clean line on that corner at all:cry:

The start grid corner was the best early on as you could throw it in just under full throttle, floor it and get a nice long drift on down the first straight at what mustve been about 30+ mph:d

that corner to start with you had to brake a little and then be on the power all round the corner

I think my front tyres were a dry compound, beacuse it was only when it was drying out that I could do any of the shaded corners without getting mountains of understeer.
The left right flick after the 1st bend - I must have mounted the kerb 5-6 times when trying to get the front to bite, it wasnt till the last 15 or so laps I could start getting aggresive in to it. My front end grip was real bad in damp.

Me either, i dicked about the whole way through the heats thinking i wouldnt get through and ended up in the final lol

MK999
07-12-09, 05:19 PM
Normally it's points based through the heats, at least it is at the place I work and I've not seen it done any other way. Heats should have been mixed up a bit as well so you don't have say the bottom 6 drivers in one heat, and the 6th from bottom quickest gets max points every time round. Place I work runs a rotation kind of systems, if there's 10 drivers there's 10 heats, and each one of them starts in first, driver 1 for first heat, driver 2 for second, which a gap number wise to 2nd place, so it's something like

Heat 1: 1 4 7 10 3
Heat 2: 2 5 8 11 4

Might find the points don't add up perfectly from where you think you were placed each time, as drivers in karts are crap at counting laps and positions with people going past in similar looking suits/helmets and all the same karts, and if there was any dodgy overtaking you can generally switch the positions around at the end of the race. If you've got all of the heats final results, it should add up perfectly though.

Unfortunately I couldn't make it due to money/work, so I'm not sure if that's the sort of format you ran, but that's how it's usually done.

Nice explaination, but it still doesnt explain how Spudly gets a 5th place in each of his heats, and then a 5th in his semi and goes through to the final, whereas I get a 1st, 3rd and two 5ths and miss out lol

Im not complaining at all, its just that makes no sense whatsoever lol

Did you see any calculators in the place at all? lol

Spud definitely come 5th? Because if he came 4th and you came 5th in the semi, he would have gone through and you would not, usually the heats give you the grid for the semi's and the results in the semi's take you to the final. My least favourite format tbh as you can get 1 1 1 1 in your heats, have someone clip you and no decision go your way, and you don't get into the final.
