View Full Version : cat removal
if you did an engine swap on a nova which has a cat to an engine which does not have a CAT, as in GTE, do I need to keep the cat for MOT ?
I think it comes down to what age the car is, they became law on Jan 1st 1991 I think......I could be a bit wrong, but it was definitely during J reg.
its wether they was entered into the DVLA database as having cats or not.
A SPI engined car is registered as having a cat, but the SRi engined is not. So if you change the engine, do you still need the cat?

the change over was on the K plate jan 1st 1993 i think if not then august 1992
it goes by which ever is older, the car or the engine
u fit an SR lump to a Corsa-C it will pass fine without a cat cos the SR lumps are all pre cat
similarly u fit a ecotec to a h plate nova it doesnt need a cat because the car doesnt need one
its down to the test station - u might find that your local place wont test any nova for a cat
