Compact Cameras

Anybody know anything about digital compact cameras?
I've got a FUJIFILM FINEPIX E500 (4.1 MP), and a,
SAMSUNG S1050 (10.1 MP).

Both are refusing to work. I use Panasonic Rechargeable AA Batteries in them both. They both start up but seem to eat batteries. If you manage to get even one photo taken then when you press the 'action' button to take next photo it just switches off. Doesn't even shut the lens and shutter/lens cover. Sometimes on the Fujifilm it will flash a red battery but thats it.
I brought some brand new non rechargeable panasonic batteries to try but still the same. Got a couple of pics then just turned itself off when you took a photo. Thing is they both do exactly the same thing which makes me think maybe using rechargeable batteries has had some sort of effect:confused:
The samsung has got to be a couple of years old now and the fujifilm even older.
Its probably time to get a new one anyway but i'm just confuddled and wandering why they do the same thing:confused:

What is your budget and what do you want to do with it?

You can't go far wrong with the Canon, Casio or Fuji compacts.

Well I would like to take some photos with it;)
Nah not thought about that yet just interested to know if anyone else has had these sort of problems and what causes them mate.

Try either some lithium disposable batteries, or some decent 2200mAH+ NiMH rechargeable ones and see how you get on.

I have a Samsung. It does eat batteries but I still get a good days worth of shooting from a pair of Duracell or Energisers. Digi-cams (or rather the LED screens) do chew batteries like no ones business. I bought some Hyundai batteries from the 99p shop & was getting 1 or 2 shots from a pair, so it shows what drain there is from a digi-camera.

Get a camera with its own dedicated rechargable pack & charger, has to be the way forward.
