Mates Micra looked a little like that. 120K ish miles on it when he got it, we serviced it etc. Nothing out of the ordinary until we whipped the cam cover off. I still don't know how everything could rotate! lol Lord only know's how bad the pick up etc was.

Shocking tbh, never thought it could actually be that bad. Looks like an engine tumor. Max latest once per year for me no matter what.

The oil on my 888 has never changed from the colour that it comes out of the bottle! Usually about 250-500 miles between oil changes due to the low mileage and doing it every 6 months.

and id be the one that just drains the old oil and puts the new oil in lol

Till you have to break a tar like skin in the sump you ain't seen nothing..

But yeah that's bad.

I've always done it at 2.5k miles.

I did a timing chain on a 1200 16v corsa that was like that under the cam cover oil change every 5000 miles is the way forward. I think its because things like BMWs are so reliable they dont go wrong and dont get serviced either and when they stop its normally something big and costly.

I dont do that mileage a year,so just do it when it comes off the road :)

I used to do about 7k a year miles so my oil changes were approx once per year on the 1.2. But I think once the LET is fitted I will be doing a lot more then that per year.

Most cars have service intervals of 20k, so 30k.. So letting it go over a bit is easy. Plus bet that bmw never get a good long drive to really get the oil hot to help burn off the impurities...

Oh yeah German cars have long intervals, but that was twice the interval then recommended, and I say that im surprised that its not dead because of the amount or crap thats built up in the top end of the engine & has built up on the right cam.

That's why cars with chain's are sooooooo cheap. Cause they all have the death rattle.

tbh I wouldnt be surprised if further into that thread, the engine died from from oil contamination. Cleaning that muck away without dislodging some into an oil way & elsewhere would be nigh on impossible.

we bought a road hammer compressor off the local council. it had a deutz air cooled diesel engine. I serviced it before we used it.. I undid the drain bung & nothing came out. I checked the dipstick & it was fine....

so I put 1/2 gallon of hydraulic oil in & ran it for 1/2 hr. Nothing
so I put 1/2 gallon of diesel in & ran it for an hour. then I undid the bung again. after a whole weekend, it drained out. it was like treacle.

after it was sorted, it ran fine for ages, then we sold it

i know people that have used diesel as engine oil/degreaser and its work to good effect.

I freed off some seized pistons in a 1300 OHC lump with diesel.
I never did put that crank & rods in a 1200.

Timing chains FTUW. Even if you don't service them they tell you when the chain wants to let go with said rattle. :dlol

**** me thats bad, reminds me of the pug 305 my auntie gave me a few years back. It's hadn't been serviced in 3 years and had only done local miles, as in 2 miles at a time. When I first got it, it would struggle to do 55/60mph. After a good service I was pushing my mate on in a mk2 GTE 8v, couldn't pass him, but he couldn't lose me lol

ah yes, further proof that americans are ignorant tards,
the poor 328, im surprised the vanos didnt lock when they were advanced and blow the engine, i hate vanos by the way, i had to do a gasket on my 328i and the whole vanos thing is fairly tricky to get right
