Will a 1.3/1.4SR engine drop straight in a 1.2?

I'm 17 and have a 1.2 mk1 nova. Engine is all standard. i was hoping to put a 1.3SR engine in sometime and was wondering if it is just a straight swap? Do i need to change the gearbox at the same time?

And is the 1.4SR a lot different to the 1.3SR Apart from the extra 2hp or whatever it is? I don't want anything bigger than a 1.4 at the moment cause of the high insurance.

1.2/3/4 all very similar.

You might consider a Combination of Blocks/Heads, I'm unsure if this will help you as much as getting 100/200 more cc.

There is a lot to be said about tuning a 1.2 and that would keep your insurance down.

You could race peeps and then at the end say "and is only a 1.2"!

Take a look at the guide. You can gain 15bhp from nothing more than bolting on other bits from SRs and GTEs at low cost tuning.

Maybe not what your after but worth a thought!

I dropped a 1.3SR engine into my 1.2 merit and used the 1.2 4 speed for a while, it was lots of fun, but I then got the 1.3 SR 5 speed (F10) which was even more fun :)

It is a staight swap, but you should also think about your brakes and exhaust too.

i was thinking about brakes. Do i need better ones? Or does the 1.3 have the same as a 1.2 ne way? I got a Powerflow 4" backbox put on a while ago.

I don't think the 1.2 has the same brakes, but not sure...I would consider getting them though, becuase you will be hikeing the power up from 55 to 70bhp, so it is a big difference, infact, it would be the same amount of time and work to get the GSi brakes, so do that :)

I meant the whole exhaust system mate. Get the system to suit, easy to get from scrappy etc....or if you are going to do it soon you can have mine...less then a year old system, but the manifold is well used, so it would be better to find one, or they only cost ?60 new from Vauxhall.

1.2 and 1.3 have same brakes

if u gonna change brakes just get 16v brakes, off cav, astra etc

any 8v carb engine is pretty much interchangeable.......... as i have proived lately having gone through 3 difrent engine rebuilds LOL
