View Full Version : single wiper kits
Thinking about getting one for the corsa, what are peoples opinions on them?

DEFINITELY get one.
Once you go single, you'll never want two wipers again. It just looks A LOT better.
Though it's best getting the 'spare' wiper hole removed in the scuttle panel.
Though there are replacement/blanking/smooth scuttles available for a corsa. Can't quite remember where now.... :?

Yeah do it and get a smooth cover!
the smooth covers are a WASTE of money
they fade, break, bend, fly off
DONT BOTHER
rob a peugeot wiper arm itself and use the wiper blade you get from monostyle.......

Yea, like dan said, don't park it in the center. That's just not cool.
As to the scuttle panel, just get it welded over and smoothed/flushed. Not that expensive really.
Thats in your experience mike! Not a few peeps i know!

I'm pretty sure Whitey meant a smooth look cover for the scuttle, rather than for the actual wiper arm (which is what you're on about mike, i take it?).
The wiper arm cover i had snapped off too.
I got myself a chrome wiper arm! It looks tasty!

hey whats wrong with centre parked single wipers... mine looks sweet... whats the point having one if you don't notice it
?Marty?

Erm, the point of a single wiper isn't for it to be noticed.
If having your windscreen wiper noticed is important to you, you should be fitting more, not less.
Touring cars had them center parked for drag efficiency.
There isn't anything 'wrong' with center parked wipers though. It is YOUR choice after all, but i (and some of the above) think it looks better/more tasteful not being center parked.
Looks more 'clean', which is why you go single really.
I really like them, I'm not quite spunking in my pants as the vote said, but yes, they are nice. As for positioning, down to individual choice. I'm not that bothered, I just want a smoother look to the car.
Those of you with single wipers, have any of you experienced poor visability when driving in heavy rain? I've heard of people having problems with the wiper not clearing the rain of the windscreen well enough :s It put me off for a while, but I still want one :)
Halfords sell plastic plugs to fit into the spare wiper hole. I also believe that some of the companies that sell the single wiper actually supply you with the plug.

Is there much difference between 2 & 1 in heavy rain?
?Marty?
23-03-03, 12:15 AM
Yea, most of them supply the blanking grommet.
And i can't say that i really noticed any difference between having two wipers and one, in heavy rain.
Though obviously it doesn't change the speed of the wipe (unless you use an Uno motor) so it takes longer for it to clear the windscreen from one side to the other compared to having two wipers.

umm that dont make sense..
the motor is still gonna be turning at the same speed
so the wiper will be moving across the screen and back in the same time as it used to move half way across the screen
it will therefore have to travel faster - it wont be exactly twice as fast as the extra loading on the motor will slow it down a bit but it will move across the screen faster
?Marty?

The one wiper has to travel from the bottom if the windsceen, right across it, to the bottom of the other side.
Where as the two wipers don't actually go accross from one sde to the other, they onty go up (not far past the vertical point) and back down again.
So they effectively share the windsceen, rather than clearing the whole.
With the single wiper, it has a larger surface area to cover on it's own, and the linkage is modified to allow it to travel furter than the two wipers, but the speed of the motor remains constant.

to be fair they dont clean as fast as two wipers.
funny as fook watching a single wiper on the fastest setting tho, its really hypnotic! try it!
Yeah mike, i find i dnt use the fastest motion, it looks as tho itll fall off (does that sound sexual? )
i never used the last settin with the 2 wipers neway!

it is dependant on station mate and how the guy feels
to be fair if its a younger one they let it ride because they know its a styling mod and you will only change it back when u get down the road.
some old guys dont bother cos they cant be ar$ed, and some are really strict
so its really down to the station mate

Yes it is supposed to be an MoT failure, as it supposively 'obstructs your vision'.
Don't see how it's any fifferent to having two wipers, or being parked at the bottom.
When it's raining, and your wipers are on, it will be in the center position at one time or another anyway (but doesn't remain stationary in that position). Just because it is always in the center makes no difference as the car is not stationary whilst driving.
Fuckin cobblers.

if its parked to the side then there fine, just when there anywhere on the screen they supposed to be a failure

I heard that is they park striaght up they can pass, this is becasue older cars (Like Landy's) had split screens..
I don't believe it myself, but thats what I heard.......
Mot failure in the middle (but most places will pass it anyway) Personal preference in what position to have it... and the proper kits are much better from Storm or Mono. Ive had 3 of em, 2 home made jobbies with pug/toyota arms (i think) and they were crap in the drizzle, just smeared and couldnt see anything. In the full rain they were fine.
The storm one thats on there at the moment is fine..
If you can afford it lead fill and smooth over the spare wiper hole. Looks much nicer than a tacky rubber gromit filling the hole.
