bit of a random one but does brake fluid go 'off'?!

need to top up the wifes clio so had a rummage in the garage and found a bottle, its got 09/2003 printed on the bottle!

its open, but still in the original bottle so it wont have been contaminated in any way?

it absorbs moisture which is one of the reasons you should bleed your brakes through every couple of years or so.

if its open as in lid off, its no good, if its opened as in seal broken, it will be fine

the seal is broken but its in the original bottle with the original lid on it...and is it ok to mix brake fluids cos god knows what the car has got in it at the minute

id get some new if i was you, most car manufacturers these days specify brake fluid changes in the service book. if i was you id just get some new and bleed the brakes rather than just a top up.

If you had a tenner and 30 mins to spend making absolutely sure just one part of your car safe, which would it be? I'm guessing most peoples answers would be brakes :thumb:

I wouldnt use brake fluid that had been left open for any longer than a few weeks, let alone years....

Its a few quid to buy some new fresh stuff.
