Still worth checking the pump is pushing fuel through - mine was the same, the pump was buzzing even though the fuel hose going to it had eaten itself and the pump was full of bits of rubber pipe lol

Mind you, that coughed and spluttered a bit. Does it restart Ok after it cuts out?

if its the fuel pump surely the revs would start dying first?

have you fault read?

fuel pump relay controls more than fuel

maybe the engine loom isnt making a tidy live? that would cause it to just cut out without warning, and maybe ur mate has an earlier 20XE?

but i could be wrong.

mine used to do this and it was dodgy wiring to the coil

what do u mean by dodgy wiring to coil?

the 4 pin plug that plugs into the trigger pack at the coil (assuming ur runnin a dizzy type xe) the wires ad come out of the connections on the plug so it was arcing making it cut out all the time. not sayin its going to be the exact same place but for it to just cut out like that im thinking wiring / earths / realys

I'm guessing fuel pump relay as well. Had this happen to me with one of my old XE's.

Sometimes you can bring a relay back to life by shocking it with a tap from a lightweight hammer or similar.

Trying this next time it dies could prove it to be the FP relay. Try it, if it works it wont be wasted money spent on a new relay in hope.

definately wiring, have you traced all the loom and checked for bad earths splits in cables or bad connections?

im no expert but im thinking a bad earth or crossed wire somewhere.

Im having problems with no spark and fuel pump not working on my loom! second hand looms are hit and miss depending if someone else has bodged it!
