Was browsing for an old post of mine earlier and i thaught i'd say hi while i was here!

I see there are quite a few of the same faces around, and i've not been near this place for quite a few years!

Its funny when you see the same old questions too! lol

Hows things going?

Welcome back Kev, been a while since i seen that username pop up. Hows tricks??

Ben,hes one of the old old skool... lol

£20 says 95% of people on here have never heard of him, how things have changed i guess.. lol

Aragorn
27-11-09, 04:19 PM
Ye 95% of the folk probably wont have heard of me, but i'm surprised to see some of the old faces like Stuart, CP, Dan, mowgli, burgo and no doubt many others still around.

Ben: I had a 2 door Nova Saloon with a 16XE back around '04-'05ish and was quite a regular on here.

I'm still without my licence until 2011 (wont go into that if you dont know about it already). Missus is driving an A4 1.8T and i've baught myself a Land Rover 90 and an Audi 4.2L V8 lump thats currently being mated together along with a ground up rebuild. The idea of a Land Rover that can out drag a XE Nova is a very amusing one ;)
Also got a Disco V8 for some offroad play with a seriously knackered 3.5L RV8 in it on two horrible crappy SU carbs. I'll get round to converting that to EFI and fixing its camshaft at some point!

I just about remember you TBH, from my very very early NL days (when it was the old OLD style forum setup lol)

Aragorn
27-11-09, 06:29 PM
Riggy: aye used to see bruce reasonably frequently. I've just moved from bo'ness up near edinburgh down to cleveleys in lancashire though, so not seen him as much.

That feature was quite old, it ended up with a GSi front end on it, the 16v motor and some astra gsi turbines. GSi dashboard and interior eventually made its way in there too. I even cut out the rear panel and grafted in all the proper mountings for the split folding rears!

Christ name from the past, glad your doing ok.

Aragorn
27-11-09, 08:13 PM
I recall the name wisewood from yonks ago actually... He still around?

The S4 is coming along slowly. Its lowered on eibachs and bilstein B6 shocks, and hes just recently fitted those BBS Pescaras (They're BBS CH without the MOTORSPORT inscription, VAG OE fitment on A3's and Golf ED30's). Hes looking to sort out the exhuast and downpipes (it currently has FOUR cats!) then get a remap for a bit more poke. It'll only do 320-330hp on the standard turbos though.

Disco, well that was a bit of an impulse. I decided during the summer that i wanted some cheap offroad fun so went looking for a cheap motor. Baught the disco for 300quid and it needed some small bits for its MOT. Got them sorted and got a ticket but the motor wasnt running right. Discoverd that the distributor was siezed so i replaced that which improved it somewhat then rebuilt the carbs and derestricted the inlet which improved it some more but it still wasnt right. I did a timed 20-60mph run thru the gears and it only managed 20! seconds. Given that a 1.2i corsa with 45hp will do the 0-60 in 18 seconds and the Disco is supposed to have 140hp (and about twice as heavy as the corsa) i figure its WELL down on power. I suspect from the performance its putting out 80-90hp tops. It seems the rover v8's are known to wear out their camshafts at around 80k, and this ones done 96k so i'm guessing thats where the problem lies! As a result of all of that its not actually seen any offroading yet!

Howdy Kev, like you mate, only this week I started thinking about the good old days when I used run about in my old nova n jumping online to see what everyone was up to, not been on here for a good few years & it nice to see the love for the Nova is still strong.

Hello to everyone new & old.

Welcome back Kev, Nice to see you stopped by mate, don't stay too long or you'll be tempted back by the rot box's! lol

Scott

Aragorn
27-11-09, 11:20 PM
Lol, i've got enough rot boxes already with the bloody landrovers!

Its quite nice being able to work on the A4 without seeing rust everywhere. Even the german spec bolts are better than the crap vauxhall used and seem to come apart easily! The A4's done 192k and is still going strong :)

i recon altho i like to think i started the loon love i did always love yours. you must have been one of the first to do a 16xe transplant aswell

Aragorn
28-11-09, 12:13 PM
Ye i did buck the trend a bit with the saloon, its just a pity i didnt have the finances and resources to do what i wanted with it. I was a poor student at the time though :(

I've wedged some pics here:

http://friesian.lr90.org/nova/

First two were how it ended up with its astra gsi turbines and gsi interior. I did have alesios planned but that never happened, it was also needing some bodywork sorting by that point too! The other three were from Trax '04 iirc, two of them at a services on the way and the other one on the stand.

burgo

the last three are how i remember it. she did start to look a little tired

Long time no speak, last time i spoke to you, I swear you were planning on doing V8 powered Trannie lol

Seems as though things have got better for you mate.

Aragorn
29-11-09, 07:30 PM
I was planning on building a fast van, but then i got sucked into the world of Landrovers!

Decided i wanted a V8 90, and that it would make sense to kill two birds with one Audi V8 :P

Would still love a fast van, but it comes a point where you'd end up with a ton of vehicles sitting around with thousands invested in them and they'd never get used. So the 90 will do the job and hopefully fit the requirements.

Only drove around in the Disco V8 a few times, but i really love the V8 burbling away, even if its a crapped out Rover one!

scott.parker
29-11-09, 07:34 PM
Not tempted to get another Nova then??

Plug
29-11-09, 07:41 PM
V8 nova :) as phil didnt finish his

Aragorn
29-11-09, 07:44 PM
Nah dont think so. Cant see any requirement it would fill?

I fancy building a track car at some point, but if i did i'd want 4wd and proper power. I've actually been considering buying an early A4 Quattro V6 and slotting a 4.2L V8 in there. Should be as capable as a scooby, but should cost a lot less to build, and is fully galvanised so no messing around with rusty shells.

I dont remember a "Mark_UK", did you have a different username back then?

Razorjack: What you planning? The Audi V8 motors are seriously worth considering for any project! They're pretty cheap (I paid £500 for mine) make 300 or 340hp depending on the model, and are pretty short (block is shorter than an XE!)

Jack
29-11-09, 08:53 PM
Not sure yet chap. I'm still musing with Lee about a front engined, RWD V8 - he was talking of using a Lexus V8, but the Audi engine sounds like a good option.

My V6 isn't enough for me any more lol
