Looking for the above - not overly bothered which 1.6 16v it is but i would prefer a complete engine/gearbox with loom and ancillaries.

What do you have?

Thanks you. :thumb:

i'm after the c16xe in preference but i'm happy to consider any 1.6 16v

the engine came out of a t reg corsa sport of my mates as he red topped it it has done 78k ive also got all the bits to convert it to a c16xe ie plastic inlet loom ecu and air flow meter

Its the head on the c16xe that is the only reason i would prefer one of those.

whats the diffrence between the heads as the corsa gsi that the c16xe bits are off had an engine change so had a x16xe bottom end and not sure if the head is c16xe or x16xe

there is no difference in head iirc, its the manifold

Heads are sligthy different, but if you fit a powerbox theres bugger all differance. your need a X16XE lower input with a powerbox anyway.

Differences in the head, X16XEL is the preferred one but comes on the lowest power engine, C16XE is next best and the X16XE being the worst of the lot, once you start porting them out the differences are fairly negligible but SBD say they get the best results from the XEL head.

There's also a difference in the manifold in that C16XE has a plastic upper, and is generally just used as a way to identify it.

Sorry to spam up your thread even more James, but I figured the above summary was better than multiple contradicting posts from various people on 1/4 of the subject lol

I have done my research but thanks for your comments anyway - this is taken directly from SBD themselves, and i quote:

'Vauxhall has tweaked the cylinder head design several times over the past 13 years. The early C16XE head (casting number: 90472726) is a cracker as it uses much larger ports, whereas the later X14XE and X16XE use smaller and different shaped ports that peg the power back. The very latest head casting (number: 90400187) uses triangular inlet ports, which work a lot better, gaining up to 12bp.'

Hence my preference :thumb:.

2 x x16xe engines, bike carbs and f15 gearbox - description from when i purchased them:
'ENGINE and bike carbs 1998 x16xe removed from s plate corsa sport 1.6, 38k on the clock, just had cambelt, doesnt have any management, comes with exhaust manifold and front pipe, not finished inlet manifold to go with kawasaki zzr1100 40mm carbs, main plate is made but needs runners finishing off, f15 gearbox + spare x16xe with 80 k on clock for spares'
Asking £150 (was £230 but looking to clear)
