Right I'm stuck, i keep getting to a point of ware I'm either about to commit to this project, but then start thinking about the money I'm wasting and would rather just have a nice car to drive instead of restore an old one etc etc...
So I'm sat here pondering it once again, what to do...
Sell it before i waste more money?
Now i have a few parts, fix and restore it?
Link to it for though's who dont know of it.

Keep it standard and to showroom condition then use your other as a daily runner lol
scott.parker
26-11-09, 12:12 AM
It would be standard (ish) but not 100% showroom, i could never commit to that much detail etc..
As for the XE as a daily lol yeah ok... Would rather sell that then use it daily, it would drain my bank account straight from the fuel pump.
you said you want to sell the XE as it dont get used much? With the 1.2 it would end up being a minted one.
I think the little 1.2 will give you so many smiles per gallon its worth it.

Next you'll be telling him to convert to LPG lol
LPG is a good idea, bio-diesel is better :d lol
Your XE is awesome - I think I'd sell and just have one non-daily to tinker with :)

Just wip the engine from the mk2 and put it into the yellow one it will look better by far. ;)

Or in your case no running engines lol Your the Flintstone of PNG yabbalexdoo lol
That sounds more like me. I seem to like non-runners.

Well the mk1 1.2 has all the things you fall in love with novas for..
But the mk2 XE has all the things you want in a fast cheep (ish) car, that i cant imaging I'll even own another car that will beat it's performance, and smiles per miles..
So still stuck! lol

Well it's a no brainer then lol Get building the mk1 up and stick an sr engine in for a little more poke.
i voted keep and restor as i dont have the cash to give you for it atm haha. Good luck with the project

Sell the yellow one.
spend your time and money on a better car that being the orange one.
At the end off the day the yellow nova is nothing at all special and something like that gets scrapped everyday.
Don't, and I repeat don't, get rid of the orange ting.

i'd say sell as you have the orange one for fun, as much as pains me to say a modern daily is better than old one.
keep it and restore it mate :)
personally i'd keep them both restore the yellow one and chuck a 1.3 or .4 or .6 in it :d

26-11-09, 05:12 PM
Well i do think the mk1 is sort of special, as i have never seen another like it, with the color and spec it has, there some things on it that some on here have not seen before, the door cards for one, it's just an odd little fellow and some how has captured part of my heart/imagination, it has that "nova smell" that they seam to have, where as the orange one is NOTHING like a nova to drive, and smells of petrol! lol
Still not sure on what to do, im supposed to restore it for the missis to drive, but i cant see her in no rush to pass her test.
Scott
If she likes it, and can drive it ok, why not restore it to how you want it, and then give it to her.
I'd say keep and restore. your mk 1 already looks good, even better when the bodywork is done.
SR rep ftw.
Im not keen on XE nova's at all. no matter what you do to them they just dont drive like a nova should, from my experiences anyway.
I would have more pleasure driving a tuned 1.3sr lump than i would my old XE.

She dont drive yet, so thats making me feel like i might be wasting money as well, as i wont drive it to work and back, it's too nice and original for that, lol the dam thing's not done more then 3000 miles in a year since it has been on the road in 23 years!!
Fact just quick work out, it's done an average of 1913 miles per year.. lol

You know something though, i had forgot what a NOVA drove like, as i have owned an XE one (well two) for so long till i bought the yellow one, the steering is so much lighter for a start.

if you have to get rid of one i would keep the yellow one and put a 1.4 lump in it just to make it go a bit better and make it as mint as you can. as you can insure it cheaper and park it with less chance of it going missing and it will be easer to drive and less chance of loseing your driving licence and selling to xe should free up some money to get a new car and put some in to the yellow one

I'm halfway through mine and think I've spent 4k on it this year....I was thinking it's a waste of money as I could used that as a deposit on an new S4 or somthing BUT if I never spent it on the Nova I'm pretty sure I would use the spare money on the Nova lol
There's just something about seeing a Jam Yellow Nova sitting amongst all the new stuff and the banter you get from folk when they see an Nova....so I'd say spend the dosh on it and would hazard a guess you may make your money back in the years to come.
As long as what you spend will be reflected if you sell it there shouldn't be a problem, just clean it up a bit and don't make it to personal

Keep it and tidy it up to a nice wee daily runner mate :)
Keep it and tidy it up to a nice wee daily runner mate :)
A nova should never ever be classed as a daily runner lol theres no comforts what so ever there.

There not special enough to be hidden away never to be used IMO - They are cheap little cars and they always have/will be so they could be used for a daily runner like a good few I know
Same as a Fiesta, 205, Clio, 106 of a similar age...There all roughly similar spec'd cars; Cheap and basic

27-11-09, 11:54 AM
Keep both IMO. The yellow one shouldnt need that much spending on it, does it?? Just remember not to spend the earth. Heck, seeing what others go for keeping it and tidying it up might net you a small fortune in years to come!!
Im serious though, the mk1 needs a clean, mot/tax and it's cover putting on soon...
Need I say anymore? If you can't afford to get on with it now, just give it a good old clean and store it somewhere until you're ready. It's only gonna go up in value...
scott.parker
27-11-09, 04:27 PM
I can afford to do it Matt, it's just one of them things, i see two cars sat on my drive doing nothing for most of the time, the late nights/crap weather mean i dont use them at the mo, and thats the thing my daily car is falling to bits lol and all three are insured/mot'd/taxed.
I dunno maybe it's just that time of year an all...
Pistol Pete
27-11-09, 05:00 PM
Your XE: drive it. Its an XE Nova, it expects it. The yellow one, find a decent place and store it for 12 months or so. Why have it taxed/MOT'd/insured for it to sit there??
scott.parker
27-11-09, 07:00 PM
I do if i can drive it, plus i wanted to make sure it would pass it's MOT so i didn't have no nasty surprises waiting if i left it for 12/14 months
And it's insured as i cant risk leaving it sat on the drive under a cover without it.
Scott
To me, the fact that's you've put this thread up means you are thinking about selling it on... Do you want a comfy car that's easy and you don't have to do anything too? They can be boring and no fun.
scott.parker
27-11-09, 07:23 PM
Actually Benn you just made my mind up!
NO WAY WOULD SELL, what was i thinking lol
I would hate to see some one els buy this car off me and then rip it to bits for parts, or gut it and Let it etc, as i do love it, just sometimes i get a bit down about not using it etc, think it's just the winter blues setting in? lol
Scott
Then use it, cover it in wax and underseal and drive the damn thing.
You know i'm right, you've just said it..lol

Body repairs/respray first then, i hope to get it in a garage so i can get it on axle stands and do like Brettskie has on his.
Dont be a girl keep it you plum, maybe for a bit more poke without messing it about too much hows about a 1300 or 1400 SR lump on forties, in keeping with the car as it is i reckon and will make it a little more feisty :d
scott.parker
27-11-09, 08:10 PM
Would the 1300 parts, manifold/system fit the 1.2 head?
If not then maybe in a few years i would think of engine upgrades etc, but as i wont the missis to drive it it cant alter from a 1.2 for a bit, els the insurance will be silly im guessing?
PS: Spud can you stop the poll, as i have made my mind up now, cheers.
Scott
Glad you've decided to keep it.
The only option.
Edd
stop being a pussy your on a downer because the weathers **** and your inside being bored and have 2 novas to play with keep them both and use the mk1 as a daily or just forget about them and go have a **** or summat lol
If you do decide to sell it please let me know first! Its seems like alot of work just for g/f to drive it, and seeing as shes a women theres a high chance she'll reverse it into something lol
Honestly if it were me, i'd sell it and buy her a KA
scott.parker
29-11-09, 06:51 PM
She would never own a KA she hates them..
Don't blame her! lol but seriously though if you do decide to sell i'd be interested. My mate had one exactly the same as that but its sitting in his uncles garage till his sister is old enough to drive it :(

29-11-09, 07:18 PM
A would sell it, let her choose what she wants to drive
It will be alot better in the long run :)
scott.parker
29-11-09, 07:21 PM
lol This is what she chose, i would never force her to drive one, she either wanted a old car like nova mk1 golf mk1 or a Nissan Figaro so this came up at a good price.
