I'm DETERMINED to have a crack at doing this myself (still lol). I wanna be able to paint wheels, small panels, suspension bits etc. I'm still only confident with solvent based stuff and can get it cheaply/easily still.
I wanna know what sort of gun should i go for as a novice, i don't have a fortune to spend, so can anyone recommend me one?

(more spray painting threads coming soon Lol!) :)

We use some Devilbiss ones at college - Gravity fed guns

SRi models :) :) :) and also GTi ones lol

There's guns for primer, base, laquer etc

Can range from about £200/£400 I reckon...

I know you said you don't have a fortune but that's what I'd put my money to if I was going to buy a gun

I think a kit of 3 Devilbiss guns can be bought for about £350 IIRC

i did my green one with a clarke jobbie from the local factors/ebay you don't need to go mad for a reasonable finish - its all in the prep and taking your time.

I've used a small draper grav-feed one for little bits in the past and its my skill that ruins the job not the gun, I also don't think that someone who is learning or doing a bit for themselves need Devilbiss products, I agree they are fantastic but for earning money not being a have-a-go hero

good question. not sure we use 3 devilbiss guns in work .
1.primer
2.water based top coat
3.laquer
I would use the same gun for 2k paint for wheels and random parts.

Primer - 1.4 - 1.8 fluid tip depends how thick the primer is tbh I use 1.8 at work and wind inthe fluid needle as required.

Water base uses a 1.3

Solvant uses a 1.3

Clear coat uses 1.3

I've used ****ty guns before and hated them, However.... WHen iused to spray vans i loved the really ****ty £35 guns as the fans were hooooge and used a 1.6 flow baby flow :D

TBH john, just get a cheap one and see how you get on I'd go for a 1.3 and a sep primer gun.

Mysetup: Devilbiss GTI pro 1.3 with T1 Aircap for base
Devilbiss GTI Pro 1.3 with T2 aircap for clear
I use the primer gun for 2k solid, Its a GTI which i stripped and fitted 1.8 tip and matching needle. This was from a GTI suction fed i found lol. It was a 1.4 which i used for a fe months before i bought my baby gti's :D
