i would like to know what boost is safe to run without endangering my engine
what mods gain the best power for little or no money as i am broke!

cheers bods :rainbowa:

Don't even bother to tune it until you have got used to driving it. the whole diesel thing is about low down torque.
I did read something in CCC mag a while back about a bloke who was getting 100bhp and 150 lb ft of torque from a 1.5td lump in a corsa.
your best option is to talk to your local Bosch diesel fuel injection agent (yellow pages) and see if they know how to alter the fuel curve for your engines injector pump, or know of anybody who does.

AND FOR GOD'S SAKE GET ALL OF THE PETROL OUT OF YOUR OLD TANK.
I don't think we've had an online funeral before.

Let us know how it goes

how do i get old petrol out of what is a diesel tank???????
i am just doing a simple transplant - 1.5d for 1.7td simple!
no petrol (i hope)
and i've been driving the car for a year already and i want as much torque as it will give me!
traffic light drag races are wicked fun!
i know all about the torque equating to low down grunt and acceleration and the bhp equating to top end speed and horrible power bands

You'll have to do serious work in order to play traffic light drag racing.

Cavvy 1.7TD develops 82bhp, same as an SRI, but with the extra weight of a 1.7TD....

Extra weight:

what planet you on ??

Near enough the same but MUCH more torque than SRi

Might not hit 0-60 as quick but still just as powerful. If not more so !

it does have extra wieght the engine is quite big compared to a ickle 1400cc

it does have extra wieght the engine is quite big compared to a ickle 1400cc, torque is nothing without sum power

ok so i run 1 bar of boost, i've got an exhaust and induction kit and i uprate the fueling by 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn cos i think 1 turn would over fuel it.
what sort of power do you think i would be looking at, considering i want more torque,

mate if you look back in genral chat or tecnical (a good few pages) then you might find a post on this as i asked the same question about tuning my t.d nova that im building

What planet are you on?

a 1.7 engine will weigh more than a 1.4, not to mention Turbo, Injector Pump and other stuff only found on diesels.

ydg27

yeah it will wiegh a bit more but the torque will be more than the 1.4 could ever get! full stop. hence torque relating to accelerating power and not topend (the 1.7 is only geared for 114 anyway!) the derv will waste the 1.4 .
No Sweat! :D

as for getting all the petrol outta the tank (i know it dont apply to you but to anyone who is reading this and took note) its rubbish. you can run petrol in a diesel tank ok in small amounts, it'll soon go. my rover 218sld turbo has a approx 30-40litre tank. put petrol in by mistake when in a rush at a service station (c'mon, happens to everyone at some point when they've had a wank day). 6 litres of petrol to be precise. filled it full with diesel and drove away. that was 12months ago. even checked with the RAC by phone at the time as i wasnt sure of the tank size. as long as its not too much its fine.

one reason why i love em, there mental. i got my mums running on 50% chipfat! whithout any modifcation (just thinned down with more diesil) ....but try putting diesil in a petrol....hehehehe  SHMOKEY!

I like Diesels for their performance on the road. Whenever I drive a diesel it's when I'm delievering (with a heavy load) and it really makes a difference.

You can also work them harder i.e using the engine to slow the car down instead of using the brakes to do all of the work.

well i've just killed my 1.5 diesel lump, i turned into a junction and it started knocking and then rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm it sang its little tits off and gave out loads of white smoke and it wouldnt shut off, the temperature went through the roof and it gradually died!
RAC collected and taken to my house, waiting to see what damage i've done!
place ya bets and tell us what ya think!

I've burned A hole in one of my piston rings and a couple of the valves are stuck wide open.
the car still runs but is a bit poorly, new engine to go in rapid
