View Full Version : Dead Man/ Kill Switch
Hey folks,
With my nova approaching time for getting put back on the road, im looking to wire in a kill switch or some type of dead man switch
The idea is to have a key switch hidden some where that cuts off the supply to the starter motor thus preventing it from being hot wired
What kind of voltage / current will the switch have to take?
Im also open to any other ideas people may have on this type of thing :)
Cheers,
Dave
Dont do it on the starter, theifs can bump them.
Fuel pump is best, hide the switch wherever you want, as long as its in a good place that you can get to from the drivers seat but isnt in your face.
Most 12v switchs will take enough.

Some even just take the fuel relay out obviously if it's inside the car.

Ah nice point never thought of that!
Im guessing its easy enough to carry out such a job, just pick a wire going to the fuel pump and wire it to the switch?

just remove the coil lead
Your best of finding the fuel pump wiring down the left hand side of the car, or by the fusebox and extending the wiring, ofc its a good idea to hide it all.

Would rather spend 15 mins wiring in a switch, as opposed to removing coil lead every time i leave the car somewhere lol

Left hand side as in drivers side or passenger lol?
Its a blue/red wire coming from the fuel pump just fit a rocker switch into this and either hide under the dash or beside driver seat somehwere, just make sure its somewhere it cant get knocked whilst driving.
These have saved a few novas ive owned.
i have a kill switch fitted in my autocross car and it kills the live lead comming from the battery/ the ignition and fuel pump

those kill switch keys arent exactly hard/expensive to get hold of though lol

i take my coil ht lead off and have a switch wired into the coil power supply. better to be safe than sorry. although if you do put a switch in and go to start it in the morning DONT FORGET to flick it back on! causes some right problems when someone else starts your car up whilst your occupied. lol

mine has a switch hiden up and under the dash board behind the drivers side air vent, that kills the fuel pump and another switch further over that kills the live feed from the battery, only problem is finding them every morning! lol
I wouldnt reccomend putting a switch to the starter live, afetr all they can allways just bump it
Id put one to the fuel line somewhere, im planning to put one on mine soemtime before i start driving
