As most of you know, I'm currently making a scale 1:18 model of my nova - which (I hope) will allow me to make models of anyones nova and include your body kits, colour etc.

To help me I e-mailed Vauxhall to ask if they could advise on technical drawings as follows -

I am currently planning a total rebuild of a mk2 1.4 vauxhall nova 3 door
hatch (1991 year) however using styling influences found on the newer
Vauxhall range. Using my degree in model making and 3D design I plan to
individually restyle the interior/exterior parts of the car (bumpers, side
skirts etc) to give it a more modern feel. Before I can do this however I
need to make a scale model of the car but I'm finding it very difficult to
locate technical drawings of the 3 door hatch Nova. My local Vauxhall
dealerships cannot help me. Can you advise where I can obtain such
illustrations? (plans of front, sides, rear and top will suffice for the
mk2 nova). I have seen such illustrations on the dealerships computer
parts system. these would be ideal.
Any help or illustrations you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

After 3 weeks, thinking I'd get no reply - I finally got a response as follows -

Thank you for your email enquiry through the Vauxhall Student Line.

I have discussed your request with other departments here at Vauxhall
Motors and the information you have requested is contained on a technical
disc containing confidential technical information. Unfortunately, we are
unable to send this to you.

You may be interested to know that there is a Nova owners club. They can

I know this was not the response you were hoping for but thank you for
allowing me to clarify our position in this matter.

:?

When I sstarted to read it I thought they were gonna mention Novaload! :D

Oh well - didnt think I'd get the stuff I wanted from them - nice of them to reply though.

Spent most of the day on the model getting the details on it. It now has window surrounds, arches and the rear has been started.

Next step is to check the angles (some are out), sharpen some of the edges a little and add more detail.

Then the nose can be started and the 1st cast made

The bumpers, wheels and skirts will be left off as these will be hand made and cast seperately (meaning I can make loads of styles and try them on for size!)

lol Ben - for what I've got banging around in my head I need to make a scale model so I dont spend a fortune and f00k it up as well as it looking sh1te!

It also allows me to rekindle my moddeling skills and (hopefully) make a bit of pin money by making scale replicas of other peoples cars - down to the alloy style.

Thats the plan anyway

Ade or freak, if you find any technical drawings, could you send me any front, side, rear and top views of the Nova as well please. I'm doing a model as well but mines going to be a computer model rather than a 3D model. I'm not trying to compete with Ade, I've already spoken to him about it and he's cool with me knicking the technical drawings from him :)

Cheers,

Jim

slim - were those ones I e-mailed you any good?

They were basic but from them you should be able to get fairly accurate dimensions.

I plan on making scale drawings as part of the packaging of the finished model anyway along with a pic of the model - make the boxes custom to the car.

I know it isn't finished, and you've got alot more work to do, but don't you think the doors are a little too small?

Forgive me if it's something you've already noticed....

Chris - the lines for the doors are not accurate - they were merely put on as a rough guide to give you an idea (same as the bonnet etc). The models currently 21cm long, 10cm wide andabout 7cm high (as it is at the moment less wheels)

Theres still tons to do - for example the B pillar is too far forward, the arches are still too big and some of the angles are not square. Window surrounds need to go on, rear hatch needs sorting, details on the panels and the front needs moddelling (bonnet lines, lights etc).

Then theres the bumpers, wheels, spoiler and skirts etc etc etc

This will be fixed over the couple of weeks or so - once I STOP working these FCUKING back shifts!

*Sighs*

Am making a list of all those that want one - will be in contact when ready

You can put me down for a Standard SR, Even the rough model would have taken me months/years to do, you've done a very good job.

Ade, those drawings you sent me were great. I've been able to create a side profile of the car. The rear profile is good, it's just the front one thats going to be a little tricky to do. I can't get a decent profile from the front to see how far the arches flair out. I should be able to manage with what I've got, but if you come across any more it would be really handy.

Anyway, heres what I've done so far...

Mike - yeah will be making mold. RTV silicone rubber for the final one - very strong and can handle immense detail + lots of copies.

Need to rehabilitate my brain on mold making - not done it for a while...

:?

Currently been working on the nose of the car. Plan is to make a blank face so I can stick in mk2 or mk2 face. Simply make a a mold for both styles. Same with the rear too.

Jim, I still aint found a proper front shot. I've got pics of the front but they aint in scale coz the camera focusses onthe bumper and the windscreen is obviously too small. I do however have some along the top of the body for the arch flairs and angles. I'll see if I can tidy them up and send em to ya soon.
