Got this off a mate, its supposed to be a C16SE, but has 1-2 stamped into the block
Supposedly came from an astra, my E16SE top end lines up on it and the pipes line up, but i just dont understand the 1-2 ??

Gonna go back ove the garage in just a minute and have a look at it again, i dont really know what im looking at with engines, ive bought it to learn with really..

There is a big GM stamp in the middle and a serial number, should the serial number be similar to this ? C16SE*****

Im going to go and check it now.

The head etc would fit.

Check the engine code.

Edit: Yes code should be roughly like that

The engine code is stamped where the gearbox mates up to the block on the front side (exhaust side) of the engine.

Should be here or just under

X16SZ Stamped on side...

info please ?

X is the 93 or later emission standards, 16 is displacement, S is the compression ratio, Z means it was single point injection I believe.

Newer engine, 1.6 8v iirc.

Still fine to use your nova stuff.

AlexW

Yep

LEWI007

Sweet.

Any idea how much power it should be with those parts ?

also could i use 1.2 head and 1.2 carb with it for temporary ?

wwmnw

71 bhp as standard, add some max power stickers and times it by 2.

AlexW

Standard power.

Dont use 1.2 stuff, do it all or dont do it at all.

Standard power.

Dont use 1.2 stuff, do it all or dont do it at all.

it would run ok on a 1.2 head etc, but it won't be very fast...

AlexW

I know it would run, but better off to not bother untill its all done.

Ok soo, this engine normally is a carb engine that produce 71HP.

If i use a nova GTE head,GTE Cam and GTE injection intake manifold, then is it possible it would produce the same hp as a gte engine ? 98hp

AlexW

Its not carb! Single Point Injection

LEWI007

Spi then, similar crap..

Reckon it would gain 20 odd hp if it was EFI ?

Youll probably find a mpi engine had different pistons to give a different CR.
It wont be far off tho!

And as said, its a later Astra 1.6 8v SPi engine

LEWI007

Yeah i was told it was a C16SE, only payed 30 quid so cant really complain, and its better than my 12ST nova engine.

with your gte stuff itll be pretty much the same as a gte. the pistons are different, but naff all. get the head skimmed and itll be about right.

Sounds good enough, got any info on skimming heads ? what sort of places do it and roughly how much does it cost ?
