Right as it stands ive purchased an e16se to put into my daily driver (the green Pea) once my insurance would have dropped (1-2 years).

I've got the engine already with everything ready for it to go in but ive got that long im going to rebuild it with some performance modifications.

The 1st purchase is going to be a set of twin 40's Weber or dellorto.

I know to match them im going to get a cam. But what type? (kent ast 2?) or any other recommendations??

Head work? Whats worth while doing to the head? Oversized valves? gas flowing?

Then the bottom end? ARP bolts is about all i know lol

So i would like some feed back and what to and not to do

Also shops where i can buy the bits and bobs from.

Im not very mechanically knowlodged but i know abit, Nothing can faze me spanner in one hand haynes in the other :d

+Rep for all helpers.

Jimbo

P.s No comments like your wasting your money buy a redtop Etc, Etc.

Where would i go about pistons? i know somewhere local who will bore the block but im not sure what sizes would work and wouldnt etc?

IF they knw what they are doing with regards to boring the block, then they should know where and what to get piston wise.. just the 1650 overbore will do the job.

the group A one had cosworth pistons, but as with all competition stuff, they have a limited life..

decent makes of pistons include : KolbenSchmidt, Omega, AE, Mahle....

but head work, cam & a decent exhaust seem to be the best way to go

well its a machine shop that i know can carry out the bore work.

what size pistons will be for a 1650 rebore? also would i need new conrods?

christ!!!! just how much do you know about tearing an engine down?????

you won't need new rods, it is being bored, not stroked........

it will need the crank taking out & checking/grinding

a new oil pump gear set & a full seal/gasket set

well ive never rebuilt an engine before in my life.

The furthest mechanically ivel gone is head gaskets and gearbox's

seeing that time is on my side im hoping to learn from doing this engine
then progress and buy a redtop/let

ill be picking brains alot i guess.

1st on order this weekend is an engine stand then the fun can begin

I dont want to sound pedantic, but there isnt really anything 16SE specific about the questions you are asking. Other than the jetting & possibly the exact camshaft, this all relates to all the 8v Vauxhall engines & even stuff from other manufacturers, generally speaking. If you were performing this kind of tuning to an XR2i you would have the same shopping list.

There is of course a guide or 2 on the subject.
