Was out in my corsa c 1.2 today and the car made a banging noise followed by timing chain ratteling then just died on me. checked under the bonnet steam was coming from around the head and the expansion tank empty. i think the waterpump might of gone as there seems to be alot of play in it. do you think it would of caused any serious damage?:( cheers
Pump has seized, possibly snapping the chain :( head gaskets prolly cooked out lol

as mike says above, not sure if the valves hit on them engine lol
Well you might be a lucky mofo an have got away with minimal if any head damage, but chances are slim buddy.
Whip the head off an take a peek? IMO the H/G already fooked so youve got nowt to lose really.

i hope so.the engine is chain driven as its 1.2 16v on a 03 plate. would it be a cheap fix or cheaper to get a new engine. cheers
Cheaper to repair what you have more then likely.

no never rattled. just hope it anit doomed.
Water pump is driven by the auxiliry belt on these engines.
However they are notorious for timing chain gaskets leaking so i'd recommend
HG TCG, Timing chain kit & a water pump.
Maybe a wee head skim to be safe as well
