View Full Version : Starting Problems - Corsa, not reliable 1985 nova
Having problems starting my Corsa, I left it sat for a week, I've charged the battery, have good spark and plenty of fuel in. It just doesn't seam to want ti fire,
I thought maybe it was low petrol and cause it was park on a slope, £10 of petrol and nope,
My thoughts are not enough fuel still getting to the engine, could the fuel pump be dodgy? it is fueling but maybe not enough
Thanks in advance, i am a noob

its definately sparking?
starter motor is turning it over?
have you checked the fuel pump is working? lift the rear bench up and the black round cap and you should be able to hear it
Yeah very healthy spark, the starter motor is fine... i'll check the pump

Either pump or fuel relay I suspect.
I hear a quiet clunking noisy, i thought pumps click?
So it's the pump, hmm, easy to change?
Not very easy but not uber hard. Id check the relay first and also pop off the supply fuel line and put it into a bottle and flick the ign on.
Yeah i'll go the scrapy for a relay
Take the line off at the rail?

Yer, 19mm.
can you hear the relay clicking when you turn the ign on? get your head down by the throttle, as its in that kick panel.
It's clicking, and it nearly fired whilst trying, could it have been just dirty fuel as the previous owner let it get far too low?

scrap yard wont cost much
Check that its pumping or not. Dont go and buy a fuel pump if you dont need it!
bloody hell glad i didn't have to take that fuel line off, 8v FTW space wise
I got it going, i stareted to hear nthe pump whir and then the charge in the battery wasn't enough to get it going, jumped if off the nova and it made it worse, so i fitted the nova's battery and after some trying it started,
Happy!!!!
Cheers guys
Good, and i didnt say it was easy lool
Haha by the looks of it i would have had to have the inlet manifold off?
Nah, i can get to it on my tigra without TOO much hassle iirc
Possibly with taking the washer bottle out
