No sludge doesnt mean your headgasket hasnt gone, oil and water dont always mix

Headgasket would be the easiest thing to fix too - even taking the plugs out can pretty much tell you whats up with it....

What are the actual symptoms? Yopu somtimes get a bit of emulsification (mayo) when you run it for short periods...

if it was h/g - you would know about it!

its got a miss fire which if you give it some you can feel that one cyl kick in and out realy quite hessitant but the compression on each cyl is very close to 200psi and i have noticed a drop of water level in my header tank

when I test drove a certain XE'd nova it had a misfire... turned out to be a combo of HG and cracked (not porous)ness.

im planing on doing the head gasket (thats what i think it is) and ill get the head presure tested just to be on the safe side

imho if its not a costcast head I'd do the crack repair anyway even if its not gone.

Pressure testing isnt exactly cheap :s

They usually crack after being re-fitted/torqued down anyway, so as above get the head sleeved if its coming off anyway.

may sound stupid but what do you mean by sleeved
