is there any way to do this in a carbed nova??
i just got thinking about how m'bikes can rev so stupidly high... can a normal engine be modded to do that also?

you will find you can do this on a GM 8v engine, as they are SO SO strong. they really are.
its going to need strengethed bolts here and there, uprated parts, probably work on the crank etc, stuff like that
but it would be possible...........

My current rally engine revs to 8k
my 1600 motor will rev to around 8k and thats only been fettled a little bit so with some work it maybe possible

Put on a high lift cam, bigger valves, port and flow the head, lightened and balanced flywheel/crankshaft, vernier pulley
That'll guarentee to rev to at least 8k
GM OHC engines are very light and extremely strong

mine revs to 8 and has lots more done.
But revving dosent mean power.
It may rev to 8 put peak power might be at 5 or 6k
just a thought.

peak power and torque is much much lower than 8k
same on all cars
just go down the road in top and bang it into second, that should make it rev

Just drop it into 2nd when on the motorway.
I put a bottom dollar it will rev high! for a second. :lol:

Again change of cam and piston setup ect can change where the engine reaches its peak. (im led to belive)(as of mine)
Didnt the old style dizzy have weights in the dizzy to stop if over revving?

i think the carbed j-plate models had that on them, if you file the weights down they rev a bit more ;)
my old 1.2 j plate dizzy had weights in it - thought this was to retard the timing at higher speeds?
I had to get a new dizzy unit coz my weights werent spinning (had rusted and springs had gone)
Apparantly you used to be able to buy repair kits for em but they stopped that a long time ago

yea you are right - a cam/piston set up changes engine power peak point.
Pistons can lower/highen compression thus making peak power lower/higher band
Same with a camshaft
Apparantly the post 1990 1400 engines are less revvy because they are designed as `lean burn' engines - more efficient and less emissions, but do have weights on the dizzy too.

1990 and on mk2 also had a different head.
Ports different. This may also have lead to the problem of leaner running(not a problem where vaux were concerned)(sort of restrictor)
The mk2 1.4s ran dizzy. and the sri version ran different.
i wouldnt reccomend revving a engine with hydraulic lifters more than say 8000rpm. anythin past i personally think your looking for trouble.
Might sure if this would apply to smaller blocks.
Anythin past 8 and id reccomend solid jobbies.

Not always.
IMO the key to a high revving engine really is the weight of the engine components. The lighter parts are, the less inertia they have to move - its basic physics. I wouldn't say its just engine internals that need to be light either - clutches and flywheels need to be lightened too..

Why not 1st?
to get any engine to rev higher, you need a decent cam/head, probably solid lifters, modified advance/retard characteristics and a means of getting more fuel in, ie. getting professional help. speak to kent/piper etc, and maybe Bill Blydenstein,
can i ask why you would want to make your little beast scream like a little girl?
