Got the nova going this evening but it has a faint missfire on idle and it chuffing out white smoke out of the top breather and the carbs . i havn't got a compression tester but i think its got to be a piston ring? any other ideas?

You think? its got a new one on it and ive only ran it for about half an hour, its not overheating?

Well the head has just been skimmed and a new head gasket, i think its a stuck piston ring but all will be revealed when i take it to bits. I'm going to do a leakage test on it tomorrow just to double check.

yes, white smoke is usually water, but the pic above is a cracked piston, i know this because at first i thought it was the h/g, after replacing it it still did it, when i took the head back off there was a faint crack along the piston, hard to notice unless you was looking closely

Im going to start taking it apart tonight, not sure how far i will get going to take the head and sump off hopfully, i will put a pic up if i find anything interesting.
