View Full Version : Nasty crash - M3 at the 'ring.

Found this over on a BMW forum. It was on a closed-track trackday instead of the usual touristenfahrten. The impact happened at the fastest part of the circuit at the end of the longest straight between antoniusbuche and tiergarten. I'm guessing the M3 was doing in the region of 160mph. From what I've read he was an experienced ringer and unfortunately hit the back of the slower moving mini (that can be seen in the background of the pics) after coming over the blind crest. The driver of the M3 got away with only a broken arm!
Let this be a warning to anyone venturing there!

Yep, lots of trick bits and thankfully a decent cage! It's definately another instance where the cage has saved a life, the passenger compartment stood up extremely well to the impacts.
Yikes!
Lucky to make it out of that in one piece.
Wow thats one hell of a smash, good job it was a properly built car that he crashed in then (cage and suchlike) shows theyre not just there for adornment, hope he doesnt get too much 'ringsting' for the damage lol
Has the insurance 'situation' been resolved yet for ordinary drivers on the touristenfahrten days i.e. has it been tested in court yet?
It's on the list but having crashed an insured, modified car on a driving trip before I'm not going on there without proper insurance, third party or otherwise.
christ thats a bad accident :(
one way to remove an engine

bloody hell, what a mess, if there wasnt a cage in that it woulda been ripped to shreds by the looks of it.
judging by the position of the engine, i wonder if the box and prop shaft got pulled up into the footwells, nasty !
fook, that cage look's a bit bent on the hoop
That cage has took a right battering, hes very lucky to get out with just a broken arm...

The vid looks to be taken from a BMW E36 so my guess is (going by the spoiler) its either a high spec M3 GT Car or a serious money DIY build.

Dash isn't right for an E36, nor are the wipers or bonnet :thumb:
Looks more old school to me, Manta era.

I give myself a point for that then! Should've had the conviction to say 'Manta' instead of 'Manta era' PMSL
