as title, fitted my balance box, rear mc is 0.7 (fitted nearest to drivers side on the box) front mc is 0.625. have run all -3 goodridge lines all the way through, fittings to suit. ive ran a single line and tee'd of at the back to go to the drums. Problems: bleed the brakes up, seperately, got resistance at the pedal, and no air coming through, but the back wheel still spins freely when pressing the pedal? the front i have run seperate lines to each caliper from the mc, again no air and resistance at the pedal, but the braking is sh*te. the balance bar is currently at 50/50, but ive tries it at different positions to no avail? seems as though the rear cylinder is 'weaker' than the other? really doing my head in now any help or advice greatly appreciated, thanks, sean

oh, I thought for some reason that you had rear discs... must be someone else on here...

get the drums off & have a good look about, are you running a single or twin rear pipe?

Are the rear brakes in good condition and properly adjusted? If they're not, they'll take up all of your pedal travel.

Have you started the engine then pressed the brake pedal? you may find it goes to the floor

post up a pic so we can see what set up you have

have you got the handbrake on and adjusted up? this must be done first.

handbrake is on and adjusted correctly,
running the car would make no difference as there is no servo.
i will get pics, but its just a harry hockley box with girling mcs, thanks all

are the callipers up the right way round? I put some on the wrong way round once and couldnt figure what was wrong, sounded similar to your problem.

theyre the right way round mate, which way should the balance bar go to put bias to the front, as said earlier, the front brakev mc is fitted nearest to the passenger side, cheers

There is a good thread running at the moment on 'Mig' about brake setups.

I have a similar problem to you so have been interested in what people are saying.

I'am now thinking about pedal ratios.
As you have removed the servo the pedal ratio is not high enough to operate the system.
Going to look at my pedal at weekend to see if a mod can be carried to get more leverage, as the required ratio required is around 6:1, and i'am guessing we are nowhere near that figure.

Will let you know how i get on

Hi,

Carrying on from the thread on 'MIG' who suggested the pedal ratio is all wrong if you remove the servo.
I did some calculations & std Nova pedal gives a pedal ratio of 4.3:1 which as far as i can gather just isnt high enough for no servo.
I re-drilled the pedal to give a 6.5:1 ratio which is the same ratio if you were to purchase a 'proper' floor mounted pedal box

Here is a couple of pics.

Unfortunatly at the moment i cant take the car for a spin to see what difference it has made.
All i can say is sitting now in the car the pedal feels much better & not like pushing a 'brick', but the proof will be in the driving.

Cant wait to give it a try

nice work, will be interested in seeing how it goes, the way iv got round mine for the moment is to lose the balance bar and replace it with a piece of 25mm round bar, which is threaded to m10. ive ran a piece of all thread through this and used the adjustment on the m/cs to set my braking, i know its kind of defeating the object of having the flexibility of controlling your breaking, but its working really well, good pedal feel and very strong braking, it just passed mot like it aswell :) but i am going to try and crack this properly, but at the mo it was just doing my head plus i had to get it to the mot station!!

interesting read this thread as i'm considering a pedal box myself. What are the benifits of using a pedal box asy?

at the minute i have a GTE servo mc setup with wilwood 4 pots braided lines and to go on is twin piston ate rear discs. also a hydrolic handbrake.

so the plan was run a wilwood bias adjuster with the hyroulic handbrake and servo setup....but now I'm thinking forget the bias adjuster and use a bias pedal box.

cheers guys

Pedal box is supposed to give better 'feel'
Also with twin master cyclinders you can adjust better front to rear braking not only with the balance bar but also different size master cyclinders.

Will be interested to see if my 'mod' has done the trick as i found it difficult before to even push the pedal!!!!!!
