oil catch tanks

Are they needed. ive got a a filter breather on my rocker cover is this enough:confused: Was looking at catch tanks on ebay they say that without a catch tank the exess oil goes in to the chambers :confused: and would damage engine..the engine is a 1650 with 40s cheers stevie

A filter is fine, i prefer catch tanks as then you can visually see if its chucking out lots of oil etc.
