A natural progression from my old mk3 astra.
A Mk4 SRi :thumb:

Looked at a few of these, was going go for a 2.2 but read a lot about dodgy chains etc. So settled for a 2.0 16v eco, 136hp and its an engine i know my way around....
So spotted this on ebay, and just 5miles from my house.

V-plate, 1999, 107k, aircon,abs,tc
FSH,12month mot, recently powder coated wheels, new battery/cambelt/waterpump/exhaust, Irmscher backbox etc pioneer cd/mp3 headunit, pro tinted side/rear windows.
Runs and drives mint, so much better than a mk3. So quiet and smooth, but still handles well even as standard
Few piccies, will get some decent ones when its light outside.

Yeah, getting some FK coilovers from ze germans. Cost like 150 new and are apparently top quality for the money. Highly rated over on AOC site

imho I wouldnt get cheap suspension for the MK4 as they are the nuts in std form.

Z22 is fine, just wise to change the chain as if it was a belt when you buy it :)

Cracking car though. As bennnnn said, how much? (we are getting shot of ours soon)

Does look nice Adam

My mate bought one about 6 months ago. 2 months of having it was driving down a main road and clatter clatter clatter then cut out. Got it to a mates garage and the cam holders had basically loosened themselves. He had to get a replacement head which took him a while to get one as there not easy to get hold of.
His car is running very well now but the egr valve is playing up.

His btw has only done 58000.

Not peeing on his parade. Basically if he hears mega rattles he knows to stop FAST. Better to give him a FACT of one don't you think!!!

Cheers Riggy, so far im liking it :d

1st job, replace the to** dipped beam bulbs the previous owner has fitted lol

Didnt realise that these have seperate bulbs for dipped and main beam, the main beam is v.good, but the dipped beam is like a crap yellow/green. Shame the Xenons wont fit off the mk3!

Silver Wheels needed mate!!!!!!!

Love em, miss the one I had!

Adam
12-11-09, 05:42 PM
Not a big fan of silver rims, makes the car look more "standard" if you get me.
The dark wheels look well in person IMO

SRimon
12-11-09, 05:45 PM
Standard FTW! I have a passion of hate against darker wheels thats all lol.

Lovely car tho buddy, love the interiors!

Adam
12-11-09, 05:46 PM
Yeah, tis really nice. Interior is a million miles ahead of that in a mk3.

Will make a v.good motor when its got a headgasket lol lol

Has it gone ad? or did you know when you bought it?

Was fine when i had it mate.......

Seem to let go this afternoon, as its now running rough on idle and seems to run really flat (whereas it didnt when i 1st had it), and it needed 2litres of coolant to get the level back up to the min mark on the tank!!! Level was fine when i had it, and was fine when i checked it next day after giving it a 30-40mile run.
One of those things i guess.... Guy said it had sat for a bit(hence the new batt etc), maybe thats got something do with it, who knows.

Already got a gasket set, £41 with the bolts, so a cheap fix if i can get away with just swapping the gasket, not skimming the head etc....
Hopefully everything comes apart easily and no seized bolts etc. THe engine bay is huge with a ecotec 2L fitted anyway, so shouldnt be a difficult job. Drivers side engine mounts got to come off though.

Its just finding time do it as its dark in like half hour when i get home from work... lol lol

Im keeping faith in ye ole' Ecotec, hopefully be sound when ive done the HG.

I'd be gutted if i'd just bought it! They're dead easy to do, just watch for the ex manifold studs snapping next to the water jacket.

Adam

DOnt get me wrong,it pi55ed me off, pretty much knew it was the gasket straight away after seeing smoke/misfire/no coolant left....
But its just one of those things, better it went a mile from my dads than 80mile from home or something... :)

Think i'll unbolt the downpipe off the manifold, want to avoid touching the manifold>head nut/studs if i can.

Cars are a hassle. There's no other way of putting it.

Hopefully will be back on top after the gasket.

Looks nice Ad, I'm swaying towards to 2.2 but tbh if a decent 2L came up I'd have that.

Headgasket all sorted?
