Just dropped my oil to do the dreaded sump gasket and i stinks of petrol and is very thin?

Car hasnt been run much and did have a coolant sensor issue but what could cause this?

I dont want to do the sump gasket and find out i need to change the rings etc and strip it down again

by the sounds if it because the coolant sensor was playing up my bet would be it was running rich and over fueling if that was the case then then the excessive amount of fuel could of went down through the gaps in the piston rings each one has a gap any way but will be slightly bigger if worn

sounds like its running rich, you'll get bore wash if it was that bad. I'd get it on a wideband llambda and get the fuelling checked.

Standard regulator with 2.0 astra intank pump.

And the engine is a pre lambda model
