are the engine bays of the

mk3 astra
mk4 astra
carlton
omega

big enough to fit a rover v8 engine in there. ?

cause after reading quite a few websites.. it appears that this engine will fit into almost anything! ( with a little work that is )

im not even gonna mention the nova/corsa, cause the V6 it just about able to be kicked in lol

** the V8 is the engine from range rovers... and they also get put into tvr's **

like i said are you on drugs? if not get some.

id say taht a rover V8 would fit in a Cartlon and omega bay quite easily. a cavalier a bit trickier and an astra well i wouldnt have thought it would be that easy

stop reading things and assuming that they will fit a nova (etc) due to them being fitted to various motorsport applications

i didnt think it would fit a nova...

i was wondering if it would fit in an astra mainly... cause i gotta giv my nova to my g/f wen she passes her test so im gettin an astra...

prolly get an ex police car mk4 ( nice and cheap shell for me to play with )

or get a mk3 for even less outta the bargin pages..

cause the astras cant match a nova wen they both got 2.0 in em...

so a v8 is whats needed to level the playing field a bit :)

mabe even twin turbo it u neva know :)

A V8 would definately go into an astra or a nova even. It would mean that the car would be rear wheel drive but thats surely better. It would be a lot of work but it could be done. Try looking for alternatives instead of the rover v8 or the TVR one look at chevy or old fords like mustang i mean you could get a bigger cc with a lump that is about the same size.

I have seen a Fiat 500 with a 5.7litre chevy v8 in it. It meant losing space but it was in and going. I reckon if you have the time patients and money then it would be possible. Everything would obviously need uprating though (suspension, Brakes, Chassis strengthening etc)

Well i've got a project at the moment altho its not a car its a Go-Kart with a Yamaha R1 engine in it. with a front exit sidecar race exhaust system and thats quick!
0-60 = 1.9 to 2.5 depending on the wheel spin
0-100 = about 4 in 3 easy!
top end 185mph
as soon as its done then i will get some pictures and stats on!

hmmm well seeing as HOLDEN is vauxhalls sister company in Austrailia...

do u think the engine mounts are more likely to line up and the engine it self need less work to fit into a vaux??

also... anyone know how much a f28 gearbox costs?

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why stick a 40 year old engine into a motor?????

Do you have a huge supply of petrol that needs using up quickly????

you could always do the kit car thing and fit it to a renault 30 gbox and stick it in the back.....

I have a rover v8 engine for a long term project, and I tried measuring it up in a nova engine bay. as novas, astras, cavs etc use basically the same motor, I would have to say that you would need to re-engineer the steering, brakes, floor and heating system to fit it up front...

If you use a mk3/4 astra, you would need to fit a cat. as they are a legal requirement after j plate.............

Did I hear huge amounts of petty? Gimme Gimme Gimme!

I don't have to worry about it fitting, becasue I'm not even tempted, 85mph in a 1/2 ton Landy, no thanks.

Why not slap it in the back on a Nova Saloon?

Anything is possible, some crazy bloke put a Jag V12 in a mini. He ended up sittin on the back seats to be able to drive the thing!!!!

Personally...I wouldnt put a V8 in....especially. although 3.5L sounds BIG! Only 130 BHP (ish) tho...and the weight. Modding is well expensive...Holley, Weber Carbs etc..

Keep it simple...but unique.

A Mini with a 5.3/6.0 now thats Crazy, where did he put the fuel tank?

so youre saying that the best buy would be to slap a 3.2 vectra v6 lump in there instead?

cant say it sounds bad.. im just curious y vaux big engines are slightly underpowered compared to other cars??

the 3.2v6 lump pushes 211bhp
while the renault 3.0 v6 lump pushes 230bhp

Hi,

besides anytihng else i think you can really rule the Astras out unless you are prepared to convert them to RWD as, quite simply the rover/buick 3.5 V8 has, as i am aware never been mounted to run FWD. The main problem ( space aside) would be finding a suitable gear box.

that leaves the Omega/senator/carlton as the obvious solution.

again tho - it will involve huge fabrication ( custom mounts, prop shaft etc) not to mention a LOT of time and money.

The engine was also used in everything from 60s luxury saloons through to Police Mini buses!!! ( no really - my friend broke one not so long ago - the engine is standard 3.5 spec either) so there should be plenty lying about should you want to go ahead.

cheers

Phil

and on the strength of that point -

why not look stateside ( as holden have had to recently) and source a v8 from a corvette/camaro as they are both products of Vauxhalls sister company Chevrolet.

Before they started using the small block chevy v8 i believe holden had their own 5 litre unit but development costs and ever tightening emissions regs ruled it too costly...

and if you want to try underpowered - in standard trim the 3.5 rover v8 makes anywhere between 140 and 160 BHP..... that is the same pwer/litre ratio as the 1 litre OHV nova unit (45bhp/litre)

However - i cant recall there being a more tuneable engine about - for a big lump it can be made to scream and will happily throw outh globules of torque all thruout the rev range..

Nowt wrong with sitting on a petty tank......

Rover V8 might do around 20mpg, so you would have to make it LPG or stop every other day to fill up.

OI Nova Modder, !!!!!
I'm shouting so you can hear me over that big loud avatar that you use....

Don't stick a 3.2 v6 in a tiny hatchback, cos it would pull wheelies when you put it in reverse.......

the reason that Renault have more power than GM is that the french like to run away from fights quicker.

seriously though, there is a fair bit of tuning kit for the v6 lumps about, but they are too heavy......
OPEL South Africa did make a rhd mk3 Astra with a 2.5 v6 as a standard model, apparently the high altitude over there means they need bigger motors, could be fun at sea level.... perhaps they did some big lump corsas as well.

Nova Modder

so what if u used the f26 gearbox and made it 4x4 ?

wouldent pop wheelies then would it?

i really honestly want to do this... not to a nova... an astra

my nova gonna be given to my GF so i be gettin anova nova to run around in while this gets done in my garage

it WILL take a while, but i want to do it :)

v6 4x4 astra mk3

1389cc sri

it probably could be done in a nova, but youd hav 2 completely strip the back and most probably the whole car

Aragorn
21-03-03, 08:42 PM
ive seen escort cossie 4x4 gear on a fiesta so i wouldnt say its totally impossible

u'd need to some how attach the running gear from say a 4x4 cally to the astra

with enought time, money and skill it would be possible

my dads got a 1959 ford pop with a 5 litre mustang lump in it and that is running 320bhp with a 4 barrel holley carb and straight through zorsts and there is loadsa tuning potential in it still.
