My bro and dad changed over an alternator on a Cav MK3 with a genuine GM item as the old one packed up.

The problem is that even ith the igntion off i.e keys out of the ignition, the battery light on the dash stays on. It goes out once the car has started (as it would normally but switch it off and it'll stay on.

Any ideas as to why?

Will have to ask my bro or my dad as they did it and only they know what they did. I changed the prevous alternator about 4 years aog (2nd hand unit) and everything was fine.

I'll ask.

Check sensor wire not earthing on something (on the mark two it was blue/white striped but not sure about mark 3 as i think they have bosch rather than delco-remy)

Check all earthing straps from bellhousing to chassis, battery to chassis etc.

Was the old alternator definitely defective..?
