Hi been on the site ages now looking at project threads really good info on them.

Always wanted a nova
Ok so i got a 1.2 nova merit blue, mk2 46 k on clock got it for €300 (From south of Ireland).

So plans are to strip out merit to bare shell and build it from ground up to a reliable 2litre non turbo (time being) .

Shell has bit of small rust

good points: doors mint,
outer mint
front mint
battery tray mint

Going to look at a 94 corsa gsi on wed that has retop conversion done already getting it for good money.
Has redtop engine
2.0 disk all round
gsi interior
nice alloys

will all this stuff fit in straight off other than the shafts???????????

This is my first build so i will be asking questions ha sorry but has to be done

So here a crap picture to start me build thread,

during stripping it.

For redtop conversion you need more parts than just new shafts mate iirc theres an article on it have a look :thumb:

1. will the brake set up on the 94 corsa fit
2. will they suspension fit like springs , shocks, etc
3. is there much playing around with the loom needed

Also as im going to look at a redtop is there any thing that commonly goes wrong with them,

the suspension and brakes will fit

Brakes depend on wheels

Corsa gsi interior wont fit either fella:thumb:

And is it a type 1 or type 2 corsa shell?

As the mounts for an ecotec engine are differant arent they?

The pre ecotecs where the same as nova's, but im not sure on an ecotec corsa having the same mounts!

sounds good I'm in the middle of my first big project same as yours 1.2 to a 2.0l much more needs doing than I first thought and has taken far longer! iv been at it for nearly a year! (im 17 and lack of money!) just make sure you do it to how you want it in the end i.e dont cut corners like i started off doing! good luck

Ryan,

just an idea: put the heap of wood sitting in the back to good use: build some shelves to store your Nova bits on. Having a tidy workplace makes for easier work, especially when a bolts falls on the floor and disappears under a pile of rubbish... hell!!!

Save lots of boxes, jars and buckets to keep everything organised. Use labels and take pics of everything and then some more! It helps no end. :thumb:

Trust me, been there done that. You won't believe the amount of parts (especially nuts, bolts, screws and unidentified small gubbins) you end up with... nightmare.

Good luck and don't give up!
Niek

you say you bought a wire brush drill bit and some primer hope you forgot to mention welding as its pointless having a red top nova that hasnt been welded up as they pull them selves apart

slam some gsi skirts over them sills and itll be reeeet. on a more serious note it needs some serious plating not just on the rot holes but the engine bay or the motor will just rip the car apart.

Bodge ftw!

I would tidy that place up too, when welding, things go on fire sooo easily!

ya i know place is mess have tidy it up since and in regards to labeling stuff i have it all stored in boxes .

and in terms of welding its going to be sent to friends place to get a proper job and just have to get a strenghtening kit sorted now

as its a 1.2 injection engine does anyone know if the 1.2 petrol tank work for the redtop????

--ToM--
22-12-09, 12:12 PM
indeed the tank will work pal might be worth changine the pump though
