I've completed my house move now, and with a driveway for 3 cars (and building a garage) I've got a list of cars that I've always said I'd own. I'm 36 now and I wanna tray to complete the list before I'm 40!

1. Cossie Saff
2. Kit car (caterham style)
3. Lotus Elan
4. Evo
5. BMW M3 (E36)
6. Lotus Elise
7. Subaru Impreza
8. XR3I convertible
9. Nova GSI
10. Calibra

I've done 7,8,9 and 10 already.

Anyway, first on the list is a Cossie, I'm going viewing it on Wed but here's a taster

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/RJM25R/cossie.jpg

320 bhp, RWD, T34, 4x4 bonnet, Esc Monte wheels, Raven leather.

I'll keep you up to date!

What they do is fantastic, how they look is not, my mate found you constantly have to drive it like it should ie sideways for you not to justify owning one, there is one over the road from me, I see it everyday and the looks just do nothing for me, an escos on the other hand....

90's one, purely because my mates neighbour had one in 1990 and i was 17, back then it was the BEST car in the world to me!

I just don't fancy the price of a 3 door. This is a second car that I can't justify having 9grand plus tied up in!

If you fancy a nice Saff, my mates Dad is selling one he has owned for about 15 years, hasnt hardly covered any miles for 5 years I expect. A really nice one for whoever buys it. Its not advertised at all.

PM if it sounds good. Moonstone iirc. Leathered.

What he says.

Get some top notch locking bolts on those rims if you buy that though, there worth as much as most XE Nova's in the original colour, so prolly the same for a white set.

^Escos for me im afraid, I love the Saphs but the Escos is the car, turns heads young & old everywhere you go, shame they still make very good money :( £18k++ for a minter! £9k for a sh1tter.

Altho, the Sierras seem to have shot in price the last 12 months!!

They changed the steering wheel and mirrors to mk6,so could have changed the dash:thumb:

Course they couldnt, the Escos dash is different to a normal Mk5 dash, an the centre console very different.

The Escos dash has a bannana pod at the top that houses a boost gauge, oil temp & oil pressure IIRC. No other Mk5 has this. It also has the "Cosworth" trim panel above the glovebox.

Just because there registered as a P, doesnt mean they were built in '96 tho, they could have been built in 94/95 but not sold that year.

The Lux version was £32k when new, thats a funk load of money now let alone in 1994. The Monte was about £38k or something silly an all that had was the rarer colour (most obvious), the OZ wheels, MONTE CARLO badges an a different gearknob.

AFIAK the steering wheels were never changed? Aware of mirrors yes, but some boggo Mk5s have Mk6 mirrors as standard. So, thinking about it, the mirrors on a Mk6 were actually taken from the Mk5 model.

Dunno, never ever been bothered with a RS2000, never looked inside one?

Ever though the other way round tho, the Mk6 parts you talk about were actually taken from the Mk5s :thumb:

Thought the Lux was just under 25k new, Monte's come in other colours not just jewell violet, also in mallard green and black
The steering wheels were changed in the later cars and the monte also had the later steering wheel fitted
The rims on the Saph look like the OZ mag reps that Paul Ripley had made by comp, around £1400 a set, i bought 5 in case one gets wrecked. But now sold by Reyland also.
I would have a 3door over the Saph, but if it's for the reason you said Rick, the go with what you want!
I always wanted the Escos so thats what i got.

Madness, especially when you consider a new Focus RS costs 27k upwards now! I guess it shows how exotic it really was in the 90s.

The Saph option certainly does seem the best way into a Cossie, especially as they are that much cheaper and if you don't do it now, ownership will be that much more costly. What spec M3 would you consider though - a bi-vanos one or the earlier (but apparently more reliable) type?

I'd go for 2 and 6 NOW before you get too old and unbendy to fit in them :p

Join the club, this is due to the breaking value. An engine that works is now £2k so now even a car that wont get you home is £4k

Then the ones that are worth buying are £5-6k

Saw the cossie, decided to keep looking as it needed two rear tyres, mot and tax are due in Jan plus he didn't have any mot's to back up the mileage, and wouldn't budge on the price! Back to the drawing board! I'm off to benidorm in
4 hours for a boozy break so I'll have another look in a week or so! Probably spend my £5grand on a mobility scooter like Madge while I'm in the costa del Blackpool! No jonny Vegas jokes please (there is a bar called the Picadilly where San Miguel is a € a pint! Get in there!)

Rick, my mates Dad wants about £8k for his. 75k, 1 previous owner, leather, big ice system etc. A bit pricey but I do think they are thin on the ground in such condition.

Shame, too dear really!

Anyway, I'm here in sunny benidorm and trying to spend a ton of money but when San Miguel is a euro a pint it's pretty difficult!

Wing commander Marland signing off!
