Has anyone got any pics of cool mods they have done to hide installs in retro Novas?

I was to put the head unit in the glove box and maybe some small speakers in the dash, where can they go?

Is there wiring for the stereo behind the stereo blank?

Much love, Ryan

Speakers can go at the top of the dash facing the windscreen in a Mk1 Nova but you'll only be able to get 4" ones I reckon in there...

No idea about the wiring though fella

Hmm would they be worth it facing away do you reckon? can't see them providing good top end

I would hide some lager speakers on the parcel shelf thing and put a granddad blanket over

Like Vaughan said 10cm speakers will fit behind the dash and will be totally hidden.

Only way to find out if there is wiring behind the stereo blank is to go have a look, you might be lucky and have some, if there arent any wiring a stereo is easy anyway.

For the rear shelf fit 17cm components and get some acoustic cloth and cover the shelf nicely, hidden forever!

[edit] There have been people who have fitted large diametre speakers physically behind the front doorcards, that would probably your best bet to get some low frequency sound at the front. Someone on here should be able to explain how as I can't rememeber

Just thought i'd ask before accidentally braking the coin/pen tray haha

Just run live off the battery if not? And an earth to the body?

Yes earth from chassis, there should be hole behind where the stereo normally goes, that's where my stereo gets it's earth from. In terms of live power you could take one from an accessory or run one from the battery as long as you have a good in-line fuse to safeguard your equipment.

I do like the carpeted glove box, may do that to mine in fact, minus the stereo. Shouldn't bew too difficult, acoustic carpet + spray glue = done.

That's exactly what i want to do, cheers for the advice dudes

Not sure i'd get the same standard but just to get some music would be nice

The tray can only amplify a phone so much haha

Wiring wise you mainly need a perm, live and earth, you should find the earth and live on the loom somwhere if you fancy taking the dash out (i couldnt find it without)

Speaker wise, best option ive seen is screwing the speakers into the door and cutting out the cardboard of the back of the doorcard and then hope it dont sound too bad lol

That or under seats, securly bolted up under the dash somwhere?

HU in the glove box. Speakers under the seat. That's how I roll.

Sound 'quality' is pony even with half decent comps in boxes and a 4x60w headunit. Expect no less when they're under the seats though.

Ideal for a bit of sound though. :)

id put the stereo in the glove box along with gloves and put the stereo face in the sunvisor like joff did.

That's it, thought it was you Benn but couldn't remember for sure. I'd suspect that high frequency sounds will be slightly muffled when under seats or behind door cards. But it will deffo be 'hidden'.

The tweeters are just above the main speaker with mine and sound perfect, as its only a bit of cloth the sound comes thru..

I don't have the option to run anything behind door cards. It's what I intended. :(

Nice job Benn.

Benn how long have you had the speakers in the doors like that? Have they not got wet at all seeings you use your car all year round?

I got speakers in the door, fixed to the door card, albeit in a crap position (when door is shut its facing the side of the front seats, previous owner did it). They have never been wet, plus I have like a plastic shield which covers the back part of the speaker upto the magnet, should it get wet the water will just run off. So no problem.

Anyway I very much doubt that side of the inner door getting wet anyway as it pobably runs down the inside of the outer door skin.

Unfortunately my doorcards are MK1 leatherette covered so they won't allow for much high frequency to go through like cloth would :(

Some good ideas cheers

i was thinking cutting the door cards and using skin coloured stockings to help the
speakers blend into the beige door card it could work and look ok with some thought

Have been like it over a year, they did get wet at first so i made a door membrane from a poly sheet to almost cover the rear of the cone.

Any one that wants to listen to them can do.

Seems to be the only way. That or a half MDF shelf, but I want sound in the front. Not fussed on rear fill. :)

IfI took my clocks out could i run a live off of them, i know it's a bodge but done carefully shouldn't be too dangerous should it?
