F***ing S*** luck - Please Help

heya bought a 1.6 16v corsa the other day, its down as a 1.4 sport though, it drove fine for a day and a half then it the engine started to make a reli loud noise like a deisle (cant spell) and wouldnt get past 5 mph, rick open the water bottle cap and steam was peeing out, when it calmed down it looked like there was next to no water in! :confused: we topped it up waited for the engine to cool right down then started it again but it wouldnt go any faster than 5 miles an hour :( any ideas??? (oh and its an astra engine)


Also with it being a 1400 shell i have been told a 1.2 16v corsa engine should go in but the wiring would be tricky because it may need extending!?! any help with this as well would be greatly appreciated :thumb:

Is the engine management light wired up? Does it light up?

if it was making a noise like a deisel it could be the big ends thats are away check your oil as well make sure theres plenty in it and the condition of it

its got one of those digi dashes in out of a mk1 astra :confused: and the lad who we bought it off said the oil was running low so we topped it up 10w40

Make sure the EML is wired up please, thats the first place to start.

i agree with dan, without an EML u cant really tell whats gone wrong.

also check your oil cap for sludge, my first corsa did the exact same thing and turned out the head gasket had blown between ports and was only running correctly on 2 cylinders, utter madness

also, being a 1400 shell, a 1220 valver will be a direct fit as will most vaux/opel engines, wiring should have to be extended either, depending on the year, on early corsas the loom goes in through the drivers side of the bulkhead, and the wiring for the alternator and such was on a multiplug which is coming out of the passenger side of the bulkhead, although im not too sure.

EML wont tell you that the bottom ebnd is about to fall out - which it sounds like it already has....

If someone tells you that it 'needs topping up' with oil, I would run a mile! Why didnt they do it ffs?

Sounds like 'it uses a lot of oil and I cant afford to fill it up with 5 litres every day'

Either way, it sounds like its scrap tbh.
