im looking at fitting my gte digi dash into the mk1 dash in my nova. the wiring etc is no problem and i was planning on going mk2 dash but as funds are a little tight at the mo ive refitted the mk1 dash
Now ive read that they fit straight in a mk2 dash but some work is needed with a mk1, could anyone shed any light on this please of what is needed and the best way of fitting it in. also pics of them in a mk1 would be great.

Cheers
Ryan

believe me when i say the dont fit "straight in" to a mk2 but it is easier

ive seen it done before, no doubt someone will put up piccys and point you in the correct direction

I tried fitting some tabs to mount it on.

Didn't fit well tho.

IMO I would not bother, best off in a mk2 dash really.

Opinions may differ tho.

It is doable. Walshy (MAX Power) did it years ago, you need to create areas behind the dash for them to rest on. get the fibreglass or glue gun out!

Alot of hassle, but you get to keep the cooler mk1 dash

Ive got myself a dash surround from a mk2 astra, moulding it into the mk1 dash but ill be getting it flocked so doesnt matter about fibreglass/filler. You would be much better off finding another dash to cut about. Will also have to cut the heater pipework as it hits the dash

hahah dont be like that we all have different opinions

they both have good and bad points

IMO

mk1 has

better stereo position
better clock position
better hazard switch

Mk2

hasbetter/nicer heater controls
looks bit more modern
better window switches

and generally easier to work with?remove

my hates of mk2 dash is the bulbs always go and the light switch is a complete B4ST4RD to get out:mad:

I tried it the other week, dash has to come out and insert it from behind:thumb:

All the lights on my dash work and the light in the glove box works too http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd220/lostboy_014/eusa_dance.gif

just had a look through peesters thread ended up reading the whole thing lol, its a very tidy job but looks a lot of messing, the car im putting it in is only going to be a track car so hasnt got to be mint but does need to fit semi secure, i think ill be going to mk2 when funds allow anyway but want a rev counter for the time being and ive got poverty spec clocks lol

i have to say if you can gauge the correct amount to cut off the mk1 dash to get the digiclocks in then you dont need to crack out the filler etc, if a rough-finish will surfice. But it needs loads of trial and error.

ill give it a try then if it posible to get them in, cant say im very good with cut a bit, try, cut a bit, try tho. i like to cut loads and then realise ive ****ed up lol

cheers for the advice :)
