Hi,
My Jam Yellow is getting painted and at present it has the original B pillar vinyl and boot vinyl. The B pillar is a bit tatty but could be painted?
So question is do I buy the full vinyl set from the club?
Buy the boot and B pillar vinyl and leave the bottom painted as is
Or just leave the B pillar and boot as is and re-paint the bottom?
Been told the vinyl can trap moisture but after the work prob will be not out too much in the wet.
Cheers

Just worried it'll look rubbish - not seen the club stuff yet? Might be miles off colour and texture?
Think the club vinyl only comes in black.

Yes Edd the club stuff is only black.
The only other way is to get the parts sprayed in a similar colour match to the existing vinyl. This is what I will be doing for my door bottoms.

I'll need to either see the club Vinyl or have a think about painting the Vinly that's there but that could end up a mess trying to paint the boot Vinyl.
What's up with Vauxhall not making it anymore....
There is a seller on eBay who sells VERY good copies of the tailgate vinyl, I have one and it is excellent.
Search 'nova vinyl'. Only cost £10.
I would post a link but I'm using my phone at mo.

Cheers had a wee look and there is nothing at for sale at present. Might order one part of the vinyl to see what it's like.
Have you seen my project thread? you will be best off going to a local sign writers and just getting the best match you can. As you've still got your boot vinyl you can get them to trace it and do an exact copy.

Cheers I'll have a look at your thread. I thought the club would have done this though, source the best match? I've ordered the vauxhall crest and I'll see how close the match is

John yours is grey and novasport has a genuine boot decal on the bay at the moment. I would get that and paint the rest to match that.

I never had a problem with the vinyls on mine catching moisture, it was mint underneath(and alot darker colour than the rest of the car)
DaftJohn..... I have a replica tailgate vinyl in grey for sale please see here......... http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131507

Got my eye on it but painting the b pillar and bottom vinyl to get the same colour might be a messy finish. Need to have a think, might end up getting replica b pillar and tailgate and just live with colour mis match and paint the bottom or fire the replica vinyl there too... Not much else to do it it's no longer made lol

That's the prob, fair enough having the boot stuff but without the b pillar and bottom part to match might need to go for the replica and not park near an original...

Will see if I can find any other relevant shots and email them to you
sorry if menntioned above, but someone got their vinyl sprayed on, and the painter added in some small "bits" which gave it the texture. but that was done by that one painter and was experimented with i think

The problem with vinyl is that when it gets chipped the moisture gets under the vinyl and induces more rust.
The paint I used had a matting agent to subdue the gloss finish, which sort of worked, any way I'm happy with it, might not be as it left the factory but much less hassle, I wouldn't like to squeegee all that vinyl.;)

Good luck in finding a genuine or good copy vinyl! If you manage to do so then there is the painstaking task of fitting which believe me fitting any vinyl is no fun. Getting it perfectly flawless is nigh on impossible!
A good painter would be able to match and paint the vinyl to a top standard regardless of finish or texture so nobody would be able to tell the difference anyhow! To this date at work I still paint one or two awkward fitting vinyls on due to the fact of their expense and awkwardness to fit perfect. 99% of novas that have been built in the last 5 years at least have had painted vinyl's. As long as its done correctly theirs nothing wrong with painting them on. I will be doing exactly that with the bottom half of my own car. And believe me they dont come much fussier than me!
Royston... Yours looked well to me on close inspection at billing by the way, top job!
Nick.
I have a genuine rear decal (1.3SR), had it for years because I knew I'd get another Nova when I had time for a resto project. Was going to go to the signwriter places to see if they had anything close.
Nick, do you have a paint code/mix for the "spray" vinyl colour?.....It may make it a bit easier for people to decide vinyl or not if they can maybe get a test panel done. I prefer the idea of paint, the vinyl was always a dust magnet after it was freshly dressed.

I'll be removing all vinyls completely. I have all the genuine gm decals for the b pillars/door pillar and boot etc. But as said I will be painting on the lower half. If you havent read my post above I also have a replica t/gate decal in grey for sale if your interested see the link above and pm me.
H9scw..... I found a colour (see my wip thread) that was close to what I was after then tinted it to suit so Im afraid its a custom mix not an off the shelf one.

I seen that ta - I'm not sure what to do - if I buy boot vinyl I'll either have to get paint to match and then paint over the existing B pillar Vinyl and paint the lower or the alternative is go all yellow and buy the boot one off you.
I'll have a think tonight.
even if you painted the bpillar and bottom, you could still hunt for vinyls after that then when you find the right ones wackem on
