View Full Version : track car wheels
been thinking about my track car.
was thinking, if i put 19 inch wheels on, would this help me get better top speed when i do 1/4 mile runs?

i recon it would make your 1/4 mile times worse

smaller the wheels the better on 1/4 mile
If they let you do a run up rather than the obligatory burnout then possibly as your terminal speed should be higher, rules Santa Pod out though as they dont have a long enough start to get your runup lol

It would give you better gearing for top end but massively kill your acceleration. So for the 1/4 its a no no but would work on a top speed run with plenty of runway.

Standing quarter.. ahem lol
just dont do it
so if the bigger the wheel the higher the top end.
sweet.
shall get some 19's then for when i go to the ring next year

Ssshhhhhuusshhh lol

yes this seems true at shakys the other week there was a metro vvc and a nova on t40s that both run around 14.0 the metro seemed to get away loads quicker than the nova as the nova had 16s and the metty had 13s :thumb:
Also something that is sometimes done at the drag strip, is (lets use ohh I dunno a C20XE Nova for example) jack the rear end right up if its on coilovers 15 inch wheels on the front with some grippy rubber, not alot of air in them (but not to little), and some crappy steelies on the back with skinny tyres to reduce drag.
Although I think this is reserved more for the serious drag race nuts who do care for millionths of a second.

17 seconds but what speed/mph
Worth a try but points to consider:
1. Its a small engine with relatively low torque which will be disadvantaged by having to turn the larger mass and torque absorbing characteristics of larger wheels
2. Are you having problems with stopping the wheels from spinning in most of your gears? I suspect not which would suggest that you aren't wasting acceleration potential.
3. Are you topping out and reaching top speed well before the line? Again i suspect not so one of the advantages of shifting to a larger wheel is lost.
My money would be on 19's being much too big for a 1.4. They will just increase your rolling resistance and sap initial acceleration. Maybe try 15's vs 16's vs 17's?
Considering Sean has a 2.0 16v i think he is taking the p!ss!
