Do it baxter, just dont kill it lol

Spaceframe with the fibreglass body was something i looked into for a twin engine project a while back, loads of room to fit engine/s of your choice and very rigid + lightweight, still on the cards ;)

Old school mini trivia: my tutor at uni went to an auction over in France many years ago and won the original number plates, log books and several large boxes of parts from the original Italian job minis (cost a small fortune). As all 16 shells (iirc) used for the filming were destroyed he purchased three mk1 Austin Mini shells and built them into EXACT replicas of the real cars using all the goodies he had and then used the log books/ VIN's to register them as the original cars. Think they'll be worth a penny or two nowadays!

Here he is with GPF;

And here you can see it in an original photo from the film;

http://www.collider.com/uploads/imageGallery/Top_Ten_Movie_Cars/the_minis_the_italian_job_7.jpg

Michael Caine was even so impressed with the attention to detail of his work with the Minis, he flew over to meet him and signed the cars in person. Probs nothing like you'll be interested in but still pretty cool I thought!

Here's a link to his website with details of the restorations etc: http://www.theitalianjobminicoopers.co.uk/

Your tutor is god, please tell him i said that. I'm actually jealous of him but at the same time fair play to him. They'e all icons in the mini world.

Mini's are my all time favorite cars (especially Mk1's) the ONLY reason I haven't bought one since my first is that i want a Mk1 and i havent been able to afford one when ever one ive wanted has come up, so Ive stuck with nova's for the past few years. My day will come but im willing to be patient so i can buy, restore and build a Mk1 up to the spec and style i have pictured in my head for as long as i can remember.

However i have just bought another Austin Metro GTa :d

For what?

easyier to mount the engine and requires less strenghtening then a standard subframe

ive used a metro front subby in mine......only thing ive done different though is mounted it in the back lol lol
going to be very lively when she's done :)

one of my mates also used a metro front sub to mount his xe on 45s. you have to chop it about abit but its quite cost effective.

red top mini would be awesome but i feel you'd love the heart of the mini, that good old A series engine. lollol.

heres mine at the min its been of the road for a little while now but im going to get around to fixing it up before christmas and selling it on to free up some funds hopefull. will build another one day. if you do get one you will have to get a wip thread up.

im looking at putting a seat in the middle, but im having touble in finding a rack to match lol

i did the turbo conversion a few years ago, i would of done things alot diffrent if i were to build it now. i feel like ive learnt alot since building this car.
the car is ace to drive all though ive never had it running properley. its very quick sounds awesome with the a series whine and a turbo chattering, t3 turbo!!! turbo lag anyone? lol lol this is a 1380 with piper cam and a few other bits.

when i get round to it im going to give it a spruce up tidy a few things up on it and sort a few things out will get it set up on the rollers and sell it on. id love to keep it but i have a pug 106 as a daily smoker, nova gsi, nova let project, and a mk1 astra gte, there just aint room for it any more!

id happily talk minis all day lol

lol sounds pretty impressive though mate. Shame you want to get rid, main questions ive got really are, is it worth me buying a high lift rocker set? And did you just get a set of 1380 pistons and have them dished for compression?

Sounds like youve got quite a collection going on lol im at my limit with 4 cars atm.

yh quite a collection at the min mate + my bros got a mk 1 and 2 golf on the drive, lets just say my dad isnt buzzing off it at the min! lol.

get yor self on turbominis.co.uk. there really helpfull on there mate and will tell you more than i ever could!

i bought my engine off a guy my brother knows, he had rebuilt it but not actually asembled it, it has standard rockers on it cuz the people on that site say good and bad things about the roller rockers, so didnt see the point in having them.

Bentley boo, I need to come and see you soooooon! It's been too long baby ;) x

That mini was awesome, I want matching cars one day but doubt the Cav would suit china blue or jamaica yellow, and I'm not changing either of the Novas to diamond black!

meanwhile back at the thread,

baxter, mount the xe in the back, & create a central seating position with a decent ally honeycomb crash structure for your feet where the mini engine used to be...
