View Full Version : Stereo Jumping Issue
Because the nova is lowered by 60mm on Gmax springs & shocks and also ahd a front anti-roll bar and strut brace, whenever it goes over the slightest bump in the road the stereo jumps when listening to a cd.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? :(

better stereo or more supported at the back.
Mine never used to jump in my nova, even with coilovers and 300lb springs.
What player is it????

Medium Wave FTW
Some stereos are more prone than others. Pioneers dont jump much I have noticed.

Its all about the player, if you've ever taken one apart you'll see.
Inside you have a tray that the laser is mounted on, this tray is supported by thin rubber mounts, which are almost spongy to compress, if your cd player has slightly harsher ones than others, you'll get skipping.
you could always try supporting it better as said above, or if you have a broken player around steal the rubber mounts and hope they're softer...if its worth it
Im gonna guess its a sony, theyre sensitive as hell, but if its an mp3 jobbie make all of your discs in mp3 format and they hardly ever skip as they buffer before playing so have more time to correct skips as they happen:thumb:

Aye, the ex had a Sony Xplod in her car, it was litter.
i have a jvc cassette player (brand new old stock off ebay for £11) with one of those things made from a cassette with a wire for an ipod. not only does it look the part, it sounds good enough for my hearing

Bin it. Xplod is crap mate. Do you not have the little rod/bar with the rubber stop screwed into the back?
LOL @ Mowgli. The bad thing is you are serious. :O

Mines a similar setup with a Kenwood cassette player with a iphone/ipod connection lead. The system in mine is 8 years old though but still going strong, even the 12" JL audio sub. :d

not much u can do about it unfortunatly mate, cd's are plop on the move. some cd changers can take the abuse, but most skip like the units. tape or mini-disc are your friends for the rally action. or if its real bumpy like boshing into rocks whilst falling off a cliff, might wanna just stick to the radio or the engine noise.

get a cd player with aux or ipod connection, than put all your music onto mp3 or ipod.
Back in 2002 i had a piece of foam inserted under my pioneer cd player to make it a little less harsh this helped a bit but i ended up with a minidisc headunit instead.
Now i have no radio as i only use it ocassionally, just listening to the engine makes me smile lol
I had the same problem with a sony headunit, used to hate lily allen but played other cds fine lol.

Dude add more support to the stereo, I have a Sony Xplod CD player and had it for absolute years, 8 IIRC  . The car is lowered too. Only ever remember the stereo skipping when I hit a pot hole.
If you take a look you'll notice there is only a few cm's of bracket that supports the stereo and nothing at the back. The stereo will probably be slanting towards the back due to no support. I'd firstly try use something underneath the stereo to keep it supported and level or something at the back to do the same, it will probably make a big difference as it's not physically bouncing about.
If that makes absolutley no difference then your stereo may be messed up.

How longs a piece of string?
Depends how much cash you got to burn. I have a Sony Xplod series CD Player, Sony Xplod Series 4 channel amp and 10'' Sony (you guessed it) Xplod Series Sub, 2x 17cm rear Sony components, 2x Sony 10cm 2 ways in the dash on crossovers and Pioneer 13cm 2Ways in the doors (Also on crossovers).
All of which cost me a MAX of £300. Sounds spot on, as it should, I'm very happy and so are the people that have a ride in the car (although some of whom leave the car deaf for some strange reason) lol
