Have you got them the right way,ie, left on right. if you haven't you'll never bleed them .

It's not a silly answer, check them.

You won't be the first, or last to put them on wrong. :thumb:

LOL Mowgli..

I had a similar issue with mine, It was the pad retaining clip installed wrong. Lee pointed it out when we were prepping my car for an MOT. I BLED & BLED the brakes, but the firm pedal would sink as soon as the engine was started & the servo assistance activated.

craig, any chance of posting a pic of the 256mm caliper, cos that sounds suspiciously like what my brakes do

I have no pics tbh. Not that show it in any detail.

I suffered it on some 288's but its the same issue. I thought I levered the pad retaining clip in, but Lee showed me how there is another orientation to fit them that is much tighter & requires a screwdriver or similar to carefully lever them in without taking your eye out. Just try fitting them differently is all I can suggest....

You can see the clip in this pic: http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM0748.jpg

Looking at this pic, the way Lee sorted them was that the forward facing ends of the clip are now under much more tension, so they pull the fr half of the caliper back toward the centre of the hub/shaft. (make sense??)

The clip has to hook behind two small lug things on the caliper to make it tight

It is possible to put the calipers on the wrong way around. The bleed nipple needs to be pointing upwards, if they're not then swap the calipers over from side to side. See the first pic I posted for an example.
