sorry to be an old curmudgeon but:

the concrete bit near the pavement it is called a KERB

when the government try to put a stop to something, they try to CURB it.

So next time someone discovers what understeer is whilst driving in town, they will KERB their alloys, but they should CURB their erratic driving.......

i'm off to write a nasty letter to points of view about Anne Robinson being ideal as the Watchdog Host, that is all

I once got laughed at the wife's aunt's house in miami when i said aluminium foil... they said no, it is called aluminum, and I said, it is in only one country in the world, the rest of us can manage the extra syllable without too much trouble..

But with aluminium if u say it as it looks then the americans have probably got it right, we put a silent i in

eh? Phonetically its pronounced "al-yoo-min-e-um". Not "al-ooh-min-um" as the yanks do.

They don't call Titanium "tie-tain-um" do they? lol

lol try learning web design, and forgetting you need to put color, instead of colour!

If the government never brought the kerb, then the roadsides would be very messy

government organisations & kerbs really get my goat......

the councils can't lay them properly, but have a bloke that will come round to make sure I lay them properly, the HSE reckon that if a 68kg standard road kerb is on the ground, it will take 4 blokes to pick it up safely, apparently I am not allowed to pick up more than 25kg, the same weight as a 4' 8" post woman (I know cos ours is a PORG, person of restricted growth) which is a load of crap, as I can pick up a kerb, put it on my shoulder & walk about 400yds without major discomfort, and I'm supposed to use one of these: a vacuum kerb lifter!!!!!!!

I'd use one of them!

in our work aswell as doing mintex brakes, we also do Don, so we distribute wagon pads/drums/discs/liners, i wouldn't complain if there was a machine that would 5 50KG brake discs in a box in the time im expected to complete it by lol

by law, nobody can compel you to lift more than 25kg, so if you are lifting 50kg on your own, then its up to you...

personally, when I worked in a truck reline shop, i would carry 2 x 8 5/8" ROR drums out to the vans and load them daily, i was a 11 stone weakling, i also used to carry 2x 40kg tractor batteries most days. I am now much older & still have no back problems

Andy
01-11-09, 08:47 PM
Its not how much you lift its how you lift it that causes back problems...

Jon_nova1
01-11-09, 08:54 PM
Yep, i know the laws, the supervisors used to expect us to lift that, till they were "corrected" we have the option of asking someone else for help, but really, two people trying to lift something while in a picking truck that accomodates one, is more trouble than its worth as its twice as hard lol

I used to love warehouse work for that reason, didn't need to go to the gym as i could do it for free at work. Do i use 25l drums of gear oil and battery's too do it again..

as much as it pains me, call in the HSE, even those pillocks have a place in this life

Jon_nova1

thats the good part to it, throwing 15-20KG brake discs around builds your muscles up...well, it does for normal people, not for the worlds skinniest people like me lol

ooo, HSE, i may do that, i'd rep you, but i can't:(

What gets me is you cant lift more than 25kg on your own but there is no set limits for a two man lift.

When i did deliverys for MFI we were told that we couldnt lift a 28kg cab on our own but it was fine for two of us to lift a 140kg range cooker

Me however picked up a Rover K16 & box (dry lifted it in the proper fashion!)and have thrown my back out forever n ever heard & felt a line of crack heading up my back from that moment on, been in quite a bit of pain, usually when I lift things quite often. Not that I care, my back has never been very good at its job lol. apparently though my back muscles are too weak.
