I finally decided to fit my 1.6 16v ecotec engine into my 1.2 nova today.
i have got a few problems though.....First of all when i went to fit the alternator it is about an inch off of the bottom pulley....i am using a 1.4 sri bottom pulley (non- vbelt) and my origianl nova altenator and altenator bracket.....what do i have to use to fix this problem?
then i couldnt get neither of the heater hoses at the back of the engine to fit......what hoises do i need here?
my manifold wont mate up with my exhaust at all, so i am guessing ill have to do some modifing to get that to fit.
Then i couldnt get the car to even turn over but eventually traced it back to bad earthing......after doing all of that it wont start at all ...any ideas?

1. Use the 16valve bottom pully but get the outer pully part machined off on a laith, or take an angle grinder to it (but make sure you grind it flat afterwards.
2. Although my engine is on carbs, which may/may not make placement different, I put the right han heater maxtrix hose going to the right hand side of the cylinder head, the heater matrix hose connects to the sold pipe (i'm using the metal nova one, but you can use the 16v plastic one).
The other should be pritty simple.
3. You'l have to mod either you manifold, or system to fit correctly. Mine has The first 2 foot of an astra system welded to the front of my nova system. No blows here.
Hope this helps......

its going to take a really careful eye to get all the manifold lined up etc and welded again accurately at the right angles, id suggest cutting the manifold where it goes to a single pipe again, and cutting the nova exhaust, and use a piece of flexible exhaust pipe in between
several people on here have done that.........
as for the others i cant help im afraid
i would have thought the heater hoses you can use any length of pipe you can find, try cavaliers.
they have LONG heater hoses as the engine bay is so big!!!

i had that same prob with my manifoild when i dropped my 1600 8v in, it would not line up 2 the CAT, so i took it off (CAT) and had a decat pipe made up 2 fit the gap
problem solved

u didnt say what year the engine was - does it have a factory immobilizer with a transponder chip in the key - if u have wired up the eml light; does it flash when u try and turn the engine over- if so u will have to wire up an immobilizer control unit and program a transponder chip using tech2 -

LMAO
It is an ECOTEC but he swears blind that it does not have the immobiliser :? that is my feeling and how many times i asked you Steve?

I SWEAR BLIND.............it has no transponder keys....not all ecotecs did......the key for the donar car is like a standard nova one.
exhaust - 16vmanifold>gte downpipe>gte system+backbox. Note : you WILL need to get the downpipe bent downwards a little.
immobiliser - this was only fitted to later models do you know which reg car it came out of?
alternator - why are you fcuking about with that? they corsa unit fits fine!!!!
water pipes - I used 1 off a nova and the other i modded the cora pipe.
wont start - if its not the immobiliser prob then do you have fuel pressure? as its turning over are you getting a spark? are all the sensors plugged in correctly and the ECU wired up correctly as if not the injectors wont work and neither will it spark!!

I was wondering myself why you are messing with that........as Dicko said it fits fine.
