Hello All
I am now the proud owner of this little monster....i live in portsmouth and travled up to cardiff to pick her up two weeks ago. It has 42,000 miles on it .. 1 previous owner, service history ..and is near enough perfect ...I plan on keeping the bodywork standard and tuning the little 1400 lump ....probably put some twin 40's on and a good cam and exhaust system. I love it. It's suprisinly rapid for a 1.4 really. I will keep this updated as i go along ..hopefully get out and get the whole underbody waxoyled this weekend to:thumb: (this car is well worth looking at ....but i cant figure out how to post my pics up) can sombody help ????

Hope to do some waxoyling at the wkend and gna do my drums black as they look a tad tatty ..also .i wanna strip down my brakes nd do new fluid and pads:thumb:
Definetly be leaving the outside standard ..but im toying with the twin 40's idea with a good cam etc etc . But not sure yet because its great standard:)
Although iahve some silver cav GSi wheels which i may try ?? opinions ??
They'd look ok but they wouldn't look much better then what you have
djshaggeh
27-10-09, 03:54 PM
I'd say it would look better lowered on a set of decent vauxhall wheels. However this my upset the purists! Standard or with Cav GSi wheels will look good either way imo.

Mint SR dude, nice find. Glad you are doing the waxoyl first while she is in great condition. I'd personally lower her a tad maybe 30mm, not too low but will handle much better. Would even look good with the original wheels too.

That looks fantastic. It's your car so do what you want, but please please don't do anything that can't be undone. Looks fapping superb to me already.
As far as I'm concerned it's finished already, project thread closed :thumb:

Agree with rubachuk. If it's undoable then i's ok as you can revert back to standard. Hence the lowering ;)
Would love to see it on twin 40s

Looks well clean.Well done mate.dont ruin it with any silly mods.how much did you pay for it?
Matty Winslade
27-10-09, 05:31 PM
Yeah she is a cracker. dont worry i wont ruin it..IF i do decide to do a few things they will only be bolt on changes. If i go lower i probably will do a 40 mm drop on adjustables ,so i dont compramise the ride quality. Its only done 42,000 with full years tax and MOT and he only wanted £1400 ... i payed £1260 so im well happy .....Its a lovley motor (well worth the drive to wales to get it)....I wanna get the waxoyling done whilst its in gr8 nick n that .....whats will the performance gain with twin 40 dellortos be??? more pics in a mo btw !!:thumb: ..Also it may sound strange but ..i really like the sound of the standard ex system ...quiet but buzzy in the mid rev range :)

I went to my local scrappy and got myself this rocker cover ....I polished it up and fitted it ..just to tidy up the engine bay really. Some more things to do at the wkend (pending weather)..i wna bleed the brakes and paint my drums black just to keep her tidy ..im praying for good weather so i can waxoyl 2 :thumb:

Ooooh that is sexual. You sir are a friend for life. lol
Plans sound good. If it were mine I would opt for a Weber 32/34 downdraught carb, have a nice descreet full exhaust system on it & as for wheels, maybe Astra GTE teardrops powder-coated in anthracite to match the vinyl, with the red griffin emblems picked out in red to match the hubcaps the mk1 SR originally came with. I'd say lower it too, subtle -40mm will help the handling. The wheels will allow 2.0 brakes which are essential on any Nova. But so long as you keep any parts you remove, you can't go wrong.

It's an old car - Meant to be driven...Up to you how you drive it mind...
Pointless hiding it away for no-one to see
It will eventually die at some point so you'd be as well getting your fun out it :)

I think personally, you should lower it by a littlle, keep the sr wheels, because they are beautiful when they are mint and on the right car and also in the sun, and just clean up little bits like you wiper motor bracket and coil bracket just with a wire wheel, it's the little things that really make a difference. Also if the brakes are shocking, which if they are the same as all mine were, you can fit 2.0 16v ones but you will have to get 10mm spacers on the front. Obviously it's your car so do what you want to do. Thats what i would do from experience.

i agree sr's are the best nova all you need to do is lower her abit and some wheels depending on what you want and thats it you have the most bad ass looking car on the block!! like mine lol
dj_wudgey
03-11-09, 12:34 PM
you use her every day or just as a toy?? mine is just for weekends and that its off the road for winter now aswell lol! i wont use my for work leave it any where im well paranoid with her lol its got a clifford cat one aswell and i wont leave her any where!!
Very nice mate, I don't think it would ruin the car by putting it on twin carbs. Changing the engine for something bigger would :thumb: If it were mine i'd keep the exterior the way it is, the wheels are cool because you don't see them anymore, but you should definitely upgrade the brakes whatever you do.

Very true, yes they are old cars, but if they are used all year round then most will get wrecked, there is not that many on the roads any more, so some times its best to keep them away over winter, my sport has been away for a good few weeks now.
